My main criticism would be that the screenies are all too "busy". There's way too much going on in each of them for them to be pretty. The majority of them lack a focus or a subject of the screenie; they're just lots of stuff shooting lots of stuff with lots of explosions, which is not art.
Take a look at some of BA's loadscreens, and note how most of them have one subject for the image. (However, one lesson that you should not draw from them is that cheap photoshop filters make pictures better.)
You might also want to google some sites on the basics of photography, because you're essentially taking photographs in a digital environment. You're looking for a treatment of basics like the role of the foreground, background, subjects, etc. (not photograph-only things like focus and lighting, because you have no control over those in Spring).

Mainly, the shots make me think LL is going to have to re-write all of his FX when he sees what I'm building now... they make this all look like crap.

You know argh that has me intrigued, although I should note that the llta effects are an odd mix of your effects and mine.

Am I alone in thinking lack of shadows really reduces these screenshots? Otherwise, good stuff.

No. Some AA wouldn't go amiss either.
