Music?

OMG I Had the bestest Idea ever... you know how everyone whines every few weeks about Spring not having music... would it be possible to impliment a playlist via lua script... seriousely I think if it's even possible to play sound with lua one of you peeps whoes gotten familliar with LUA-scripting should make a "proof of concept" for playing music in game...

another option would be to use winamp's plugin features to send commands to spring using the whatever the bot/AI interfaces use

finally, and here's the simplest option... I think... If lua can display a mini-browser window or web content otherwise you can use VLC's HTTP interface to control VLC from in game.

sure you "might as well just ALT-Tab out... but everyone knows sometimes you can't do that... and also this FIRST step would lead to being able to have TA style contextual music in the future.

hm, that wouldn't be "ingame music" then i think.

you could just set up hotkeys for winamp then.
for foobar (free mp3player software) I use crtl +
F9 -> pause/play
F10 -> next song (random)
F11 -> next playlist

works with every game and no need to alttab.

I just realised I have a bunch of extra-buttons on the keyboard that can open mediaplayer, play/pause, Mute, "Favorites" (dosn do anything), Emai and open internets... They forgot a "change song" button tough... stupid suckers...

Winamp global hotkeys:
Right click on Winamp window -> Options -> Preferences... -> Global Hotkeys
I use them everywhere, even when im just browsing. They rock.

Contextual music would kick ass though, whoever makes it is awesome :P

I don't think the complaints are about that you can't play music while spring is running (cause you can and its easy, as people are demostrating), I think all the complaints are about Spring not having an actual dedicated soundtrack, like normal games of this quality. Problem is, well, do we actually have any musicians in this community?

Several, most of whom have volunteered to make music for spring, just no one has taken them up on their offers

Okay... are any of you actually capable of LUA script or are you commenting on the validity of my suggestion... cause it looks like the second to me...

There's a thread for that in the feature requests forum.
