Content error: Could not load detail texture from file bitma

Hi there,

I have a problem with TA Spring:
When I start the programm I can see the main menu and select the script "Commander" followed by the mod "random map" and "random mod". After that the game crashes and i am forced back to Windows XP with the following message:

Incorrect/Missing Content:
"Content error: Could not load detail texture from file bitmaps/detailtex2.bmp"

I allready installed the GPL contend and tried several options in the settings menu - without success. Any suggestions what I can do to run the programm properly?

In the menus where you choose "Random mod" and "Random map", do you see any other entries there? If so, which?

Yeah, that's a map problem. Map is trying to reference a detail tex that you don't have. You need to get the map name and contact whoever made it.

If you got the GPL version, trying to play any mod other than nanoblobs will cause that error.

Thanks a lot, guys.

It was because of the GPL Pack. Now it works. Great rebuild of the original TA and a suprisingly big community

The GPL pack is missing the standard detailtex?

It shouldn't...

I get that message with any map I try. I start from the Battleroom and start a game against a bot but after short loading I get kicked out with that message. Can I get that missing file anywhere or the Non-GPL Version?

I'm having exactly the same problem, except I have only tried to join all-human battles. Haven't been able to start my first ever Spring multiplayer match yet despite many tries. Life sometimes sucks for us noobs :D !

The community you guys have here seems amazing. Some things really impress me, such as the "school matches" on the battle server where experienced players provide guidance to new players instead of boosting their ego by butchering them. Excellent going, now if only I would get a chance to have a go too...

I'd suggest grabbing the normal installer and installing it over the other installation.

Another thing to fix for the next version then... this is stopping a lot of new people probably.

Yes, I'll probably not make a GPL installer next release.

Ahhhh, but what about the linux release?!

Will do the basically the same as before, will compile debs for i386 and amd64 (was too lazy for that with 0.74b3, but I will try it now :-)), and will make source packages. All with just the content that's in SVN, and possibly I'll try to get someone to make a package of a GPL map so the linux version has at least a DFSG compliant map.

Err, how hard is it to make a random noisy grey texture, and save as detailtex2.bmp? Because "GBL map package" and "DFSG compliant map" sounds like really big words when all you need is that.

Ok, just made one using only Gimp, attach whatever license you need to it:detailtex2.bmp I haven't tested ingame, but it's tilable and look similar enough to the old one, so hopefully won't be too ugly.

However, come to think of it, there are many other textures in Spring's default bitmaps.sdz, and about every mod and maps relies on them. Who made them? What are their license? Which need to be remade?

The problem is not that we don't have a detail tex, the problem is that for some weird reason it got apparently excluded :?

The GPL installer is supposed to have the default content files...

For Debian indeed some textures need remaking, I'll post the list if I remember.

Ah ok. And I just noticed the default detailtex2.bmp is a lot more subtle than a random noize anyway.

hmm... so how do I get that bitmap into the game as I cannot find a bitmaps folder in my Spring directory. Only the file bitmaps.sdz

Thanks for discussing it by the way!

Just grab the normal installer (not the *_gpl one). That is by far easier then manually fixing it.

Ok! Works!
I used this link: http://spring.clan-sy.com/dl/spring_0.74b3.exe

I De-Installed the old version correctly but I left the Spring Folder in in C:\... and installed the new version into that folder. That seemed to have caused the problem. This time I deleted that folder completely and installed everything new.

No Idea why it did not work.

Thanks a lot! Now I`ll start with the Spring Trailer
