That map would look 1000% better as SM3. No more distortion on the hills.

Yeah but...then nobody would be able to run it. :(
SM3 maps are non-existant for a reason. What that is exactly, I dunno.

There are some sm3 maps about, the reason there are not many I think,, is because feature placement is difficult and there are some technical issues with the sm3 format that need sorting I believe, feel free to correct me anyone :?

well the fact that the lobby doesn't support sm3 is a bit of a damper as well...

I've looked at SM3 in new builds, and while I dunno about the Lobby yet, it's working pretty well in Spring in general. I have several SM3 maps I use for testing, and they aren't pretty, but they're perfectly functional.

Placing Features is pretty easy with Hugh's tool. I wish he'd come back and finish it, but I have a feeling he's gone for good.

And, in general, I think it would be wise for people to start building towards the future, instead of sticking with what you know. If you haven't noticed, the devs in general tend to respond to whatever is actively getting used and tested. I think half the reason SM3 has taken so long is that JC just hasn't seen people grab it by the horns and take advantage of its main features. Splatting and normal maps are both such giant steps forwards that I'm still not sure why you guys are being so hesitant.

so wait, argh, are you saying in the next build sm3 is usable?

I haven't had any serious problems with it, myself. No serious errors, water, etc., seems to render normally, and I've learned how to get control over the normal lighting, so that you can have stuff that looks like this:

Maybe I should take one of my very ugly maps and make it a little more pro, so that you can see it in a newer build of Spring...

Lack of control over the normals blends for one.

It's also a lot more demanding in GPU so I hear.
