I want to get this laptop...

I'm a bit concerned whether I should get it or not. The fact that it says Open Box and there are no customer reviews makes me unsure. That and Acer is a knockoff brand. But for the price, the laptop has excellent components with it's 2GB of DDR2 ram, dual core 1.6 ghz cpu, and the 7600 gfx card. It's the best laptop I can find on Newegg for the price. I can't find any ASUS or Sony laptops that are a better deal.

If any 'laptop enthusiast' has anything to tell me about, like if there is something out there that is better than this for less than $1,500 or if there is a recommended brand, please comment.

As for what I will be doing on the laptop, I will mostly play Spring and any other games that are not high in comp resource requirements. I might play SupCom on it one day (on lowest settings of course, or med settings if it can handle it). I might get some FPSes as well.

If anyone has a brand of laptop coolers that they recommend, please tell me. I'm planning on getting this one atm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834999412

That should handle supcom ok with low/med settings, I think ppl put too much emphasis on the graphics card when evaluating supcoms minimum requirements.

Also the fact you onyl searched newegg is troubling.

As a rule of thumb, sony vaios are brand PCs not performance/value PCs and expect to be charged more than average for the same stuff but with a fashy case and an ugly "vaio" graphic etched on the top.

Also, that's around £800 right? I bought a cpu with twice the horsepower, 2GB 800Mhz DDR2, 160GB SATA, and an 8800GTS 640MB, for a similair price, and since then prices have fallen, and cheaper models have come out. If you really want gaming on a laptop be prepared to carry an AC power pack around and be stuck near power sockets whenever you use it.

As for coolers, I've never seen anybody use onehere, nor have I ever seen them advertised or on sale in UK stores.

Well then what other sites do you know of that I should browse?

That shouldn't be a problem, I don't travel much. The primary reason I want a gaming laptop is so I can take it to this place nearby that has DSL.

Actually, one of my brother's teacher's friends made an 8 Core computer using old crappy outdated computers and hookin em up some how... He rendered a scene that took 3 hours on a 2.16 (it was 2.1X [teh X is a variable...]) dual core and took him 45 minutes

I would try to do it if those all worked okayishly, hehe
