Last year modeled a Dune 2 based Wind Trap for use in Spring, though at the time never got around to doing more items or importing into the engine - so as the model is already starting to look 'old', and with new shader tech avaliable it will soon be dated, so ive decided to release it for anyone who can find some use for it :)

Within the Wind_Trap.zip ive included the orginally LWO (Lightwave) model file along with an .obj export, texture jpg & a small readme.txt.

If it does get used, my only request is please add my name to credits :)

Download file: http://www.dark-forge.com/downloads/Wind_Trap.zip

Regards!

I just wish I had a project available where that wouldn't look out-of-place. Ah well, Rattle will be pleased :-)

Very nice. Good texture, nicely subdued.

You should have released this before they made star wars 3! :P

Hmmm, I wonder whether the Rebels could use this as their variable source of power... *muses*

How about in mygeto (I think this is the name of the snow planet), generating energy with the wind of those snowstorms? :P

How about... not.

Not sure whether it would blend particularly well with Starwars :) slightly suspect as im sure most here have played Dune 1 & 2 at somepoint (accept for the younger whippersnappers).

If anyone does do a Dune project they can always drop and email and if* I have time can do few more items.

I do, but I never really finish anything because I didn't like how things turned out in the end. I do this for the learning experience anyway...

I played both Dune 1 and 2 as well and am a big fan of both.

The obj export there is not the full model, it's just one "trap" for me - at least that's what I get when I import it into wings. Also you should keep textures in an uncompressed format (png), jpgs = artifacts (unless you turned compression off).

Right updated the zip to include a fixed obj file as well as a TGA UV export & texture :)

Tch, tch, tch, I am 13 and I played all teh Westwood games... Just cuz they are old and dated doesn't mean I like the filthy crap people call games these days... Graphics over gameplay ftl...

Dune 1 was made by Cryo by the way. They're bankrupt by now because of FH's Dune which wasn't successful at all.

FH's Dune (the action-adventure) sucked. In more than one way.

Haven't had a chance to try it as the demo didn't run and I suspect the full version to have the same issues.

Don't buy the full version. (Spoiler) On the first mission, you have to run from a Sandworm to some rock or other, but due to the fact that the camera is focused on the worm you have absolutely NO IDEA of where you have to go. Even if you REACH the rock, you have to be at one particular spot or you're dead. Bad. Took me a few dozen tries (with some uninstalls/weeks/reinstalls thrown in for good measure) afore I actually made it through.

Also, Lipsync is worse than I have EVER seen. It looks more like they're sniffling than actually talking, seriously, it's terrible.

Are you bashing up Dune 1 (the one where you fly around in the ornithopter and talk to people and send fremen around mining/fighting), or is this some other game? I mean Dune1 is utterly cool!

Don't worry I don't spend money on games anymore...

He's talking about "Frank Herbert's Dune" (available for PC/PS2) which is an action adventure based on the first miniseries from 2000. The two series totally sucked to be honest...

What Rattle said.

Dune I is arguably the best game, gameplay-wise, that I have ever played bar none. And it actually HAD good lipsync ;)

I found the 400 MB CD version of Dune 1 some years ago, probably on underdogs. Full of videos and speech... totally cool. I've only known the 2 MB floppy PC version up to then.
