Spring RTS Engine

Im really thinking about getting one of these. Ive been looking for a laptop/notebook for some time now, and the macbook seems solid enough. However ive also been reading alot about defective ones here and there, and stability issues with macOS..

Anyone have experience with these babies?

I'm currently writing an article for the school paper about how Apple computers suck, and a few paragraphs are devoted to macbooks being much much more expensive than dells with the same exact system specs.

So, yeah, macbooks are much more expensive than dells with the same exact system specs, so I would reccomend a dell. They're also much more customizable, and upgradable, and they come with Windows instead of Macintosh, but you can also get them blank (supposedly...)

kay, i just kitted out a dell with identical hardware and equivalent software as the Macbook uh.. medium. It ended up at 17 486,25 SEK which would with the current exchangerate be 2415,2 USD.
Sure, it has 40 GB more HDD space and a 1 inch larger screen, but is it worth it compared to the macbooks price of 12 795 SEK or 1 766,53 USD?

A difference of 648,7 USD. Or did i screw up somewhere?

A Mac and a dell with teh same raw specs arent quit comparable. For oen Macs use different types of hardware to connect those graphics cards and cpu's up.

For example a Mac hasnt got a BIOS.

However Macs are brilliant at what they do, gaming however isnt Mac orientated and you'll be dissapointed by top end games on a Mac, but you'd be dissapointed with them on anything but the highest end laptop, which isnt a laptop dell can provide, and isnt something most people can even dream of affording. Sadly such a laptop would make you infertile and burn the lower half of your body off while the laptop drains the life out the AC power pack you need to lug everywhere, basically making it a desktop PC with a shoddy case, keyboard and monitor, and a gigantic price tag.

Thus MacBooks are not comparable to dell laptops, and for all intensive purposes laptops arent for gaming, and you're sure to be dissapointed gy what you get if your expecting your extra money to buy you desktop PC performance on a portable PC (lets face it, it isnt portable if it can play the latest games, fullstop).

Aside from the higher quality engineering that goes into a macbook, a major factor of their price is the size. Have you seen one of those irl? They're TINY.

Hmm... Well, it probably depends on which one you get for both of them, but for what I'm in the market for the Dell version is much faster and much cheaper.

But, whatever, carry on. I have little actual experiance with a macbook.

larger stores have higher buying power so they can get things from wholesalers at cheaper prices.

Whether they pass this discount onto the consumers is up to them, but larger stores generally will have better prices.

Heh, I ain't looking for a desktop replacement, just a mobile box for some programming, a bit of Eve Online (yes it runs nicely) and probably some schoolwork.

I have a MacBook and I would recommend it to anyone who has any sense in their head. It's an excellent product. The rumors of "gaming on macs suck" is totally not true. Hell, with a FREE DOWNLOAD, you can run any Windows program on your mac at virtually the same speed as you would on a Dell or any other PC. What does this mean? You'll be able to enjoy the few games that don't work natively on Macs, while still being able to have the amazing OS X run on your system. (New release of OSX is coming out soon, by the way.)

If it's running on i386 hardware, who cares what OS is on it? You can load up Linux, Windows, or OSX...

That, frankly, is the big catch with Macs these days. Buying a G-series chipset means that you're doomed as support for these disappears.

Apple's hardware is almost always wonderful in terms of basic quality, so you're unlikely to be disappointed if you go that route. But make sure you're getting i386 hardware, so you can stick Linux or Windows on it if you need to. Otherwise you may have a laptop that's great while you're in school, and completely useless 2-3 years from now, which is a silly thing to do, when laptops are underpowered and overpriced to begin with, yet any modern machine is massive overkill for doing mundane things like office work on the road or presentations.

Apple doesn't sell powerPC based computers any more. You can't buy one (except perhaps refurbished).

Apple doesn't sell bottom of the line machines. Their computers (even the mac mini) start around the middle of most PC maker's lineup. However, they are very competitive pricewise in the middle to top of the line range.

I would not recommend that anyone with computer skills purchase a desktop (they should build it themselves, instead). I would not recommend that anyone purchase any laptop other than an Apple. (Note these are general recommendations, and might not be applicable to niche cases).

Apple generally makes good hardware, and these days, you can always put windows or linux on it. The MacOS is good (I think ubuntu linux is better, unless you need photoshop or some other high end apps that don't have linux versions yet). Windows is a pile of crap, but it is the pile of crap we all use, so we are stuck with it. And Apple hardware will run any of the three (and even run them all simultaneously, with the right third party apps). Buy a macbook (the pros are overpriced at the moment) and don't look back.

Also, go to newegg, and max out the memory on it. Apple memory is WAY overpriced. Do the upgrade yourself and max out the memory on the machine. These days, you can never have too much memory.
