Middle click cross hair toggle.

Is there a way to disable or change the function of middle click so it doesn't switch to the + cross hair? And secondarily, why does it do that in the first place? Is it connected to the ability to inhabit a unit?

Cross hair is pretty useful... atleast in TA camera.

edit: just to point out, it lets you scroll without being at the map edge.

Extremely useful in rotatable and fps cameras.

Why would you want to turn it off?

it's useful in OTA view if playing in a window, also middleclicking on minimap Takes You There(tm).

Look under mouse input settings in game settings for 3 button minimap mouse support.

Learn to use it, and give commands on the minimap.

I'm not talking about the mini map, I know how to use that just fine, (I'm also pleased that I can give orders from it now.)

I use FPS mode only, and for scolling I use the keyboard, only. So the cross hair is of no use to me, it just gets in the way.

The only time I like it is when I'm driving a unit around directly. In that situation it's useful, (esspecially since every command you make without it just ends in whatever unit your in firing.)

I've checked in settings.exe (which I'm pleased a least lets me disable the other viewing modes so I don't accidentally switch to one of those.) I also checked the keybindings. I think the keybindings file is lacking mouse bindings. And probably a resurrect command so I can bind that to something.

(slightly off subject but what key is the "Meta" key? Is that spacebar?)

Meta should be esc on x86 machines (at least that's how emacs uses it). Sparcs have a dedicated key for that and I think Apples use the command key as meta.

I just wish it would move the opposite way to the way you move the mouse, so that you are panning the screen rather then moving the camera in a certain direction, if you get what I mean.

ala CAD programs or Supreme Commander.

I never played any RTS on console, but I heard that crosshair mode brought by the middle click is the kind of control they have on RTS on console: you move the view with the controller, and the action (the left and right mouse button action) take place where the crosshair is.

I wondered how they did that... Still that sounds annoying.

Meta is whatever you want it to be. To make is spacebar, add

Code: Select all

fakemeta 0x020
to your uikeys.txt file.

That widget disables the standard middle click "locked" mode.
(only in TA viewmode, although it's easy to mod it to block in the
other viewmodes).

P.S. the widget has been updated a little. You can now use it in
its own kind of lock mode by using a mouse rocker movement.

I kinda need middle click, it allows me to look around in FPS mode, without it I'd be really stuck.
