Preface:
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Since too often threads get derailed horribly here are some helpfull suggestions when you want to post in this discussion
I'm talking about BA here. If you wanna talk about setting up a ladder for your wonderful mod that doesn't get the appreciation it deserves because of evil caydr/noize - do it elsewhere.
Don't post your wonderful ideas if your total playing experience is 4 games against NTAI even if it was two allied against you!!!
Don't post in this thread if all you are going to do is call me a hypocrite for making rules so my thread doesn't get shitted up, when all i do is post crap in other people's threads.
In short, if you aren't interested in playing in a new ladder system, don't post about the new ladder system
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
As some of you may have noticed, the spring ladder has died.
Supcom beta, along with AA2.23 pretty much destroyed the 1v1 spring community.
There is a bit of discussion in a thread in General about ranks and ladders and I thought i'd make a thread here for some real discussion based right on the topic of bringing competition back to TAS.
Ideally everyone, of every skill level could participate in the ladder. But as everyone very well knows, the vast majority of spring players - whether by disinterest or intimidation - didn't feel like participating.
What I would like to see is a ladder system accessible to all players, not just the elite.
After thinking about this for a little while i've come up with a few ideas to throw out here.
First is a 2v2 ladder where you enter a pool of up to 10 players and compete in 2v2 games under the name of your team, which is a single entity on the ladder. I choose 2v2 because it isn't as intimidating as a 1v1, but still has an emphasis on individual skill.
My second idea is a ladder system where we divide it into divisions, A league, B, C ect. Already i can see the problem with this will be that anyone who isn't good enough to play in A probably wont want to play at all, and we'll be stuck back where the old ladder was - 10 people playing each other over and over -
My final and imo most solid idea is to have 3 different ladders, loosely skill based but all offering different play styles
1 - 1v1 ladder, plain and traditional
2 - Clan Ladder, Games of variable size with the only limit being all players must be part of the clans team
3 - Open ladder, I don't know the specifics of how this one would work out, but it would be intended as a easy going ladder without needing any commitment to a team or clan
Some further problems of course are the ladder isn't a part of the TAS lobby, and therefore reducing accessibility because of needing to sign up at a third party location - and imo, accessibility is the #1 concern.
Thankyou.
