KoBA - To B or not to B

Since KoAA has recently just been taken over by people playing speedmetal and tinyme (yes you flop) I've decided to try impliment a new title with more of a tourny base.

The wiki entry is up, but so far all i've had is people come to me and moan that "their map (that they're good at)" isn't on the list. This is what i didn't want to happen so I leaving it out in the open for any useful ideas how this could be run. After all if you are the king you should have to be good at every aspect of the mod, not just a Build Q for a map -.-

please read the wiki post before you comment here

Quanto, remake SpeedMetal with more metal and call it a tournament map.

I actually got into a rather large argument with flop because he was offended that I didn't think he could get the KoAA title (well, actually I was joking) then made the mistake of saying I was almost as good as him. Because that's an impossibility and all.

While I don't like the idea of an include list (a banlist would be better), the following maps should be added regardless:
Arctic Planes
Battle for PlanetXVII
Checker Ponds Remake
Coast to Coast Remake V2
Full Moon V2
Greenhaven Remake
Painted Desert Remake V2
Sands of War V2

All of these will give a good 1v1 game.

Is there a channel? (like #koba or something)

Also the map Arctic Planes, while eitherwise nice, hurts my eyes because it is so bright.
Other quite new and good maps are Fractured Face and Fractured Eyes.

I don't know about this approved map list idea. It should be
any spring map that both agree on. If they are going for KOBA they
should be able to win on any spring map.

There's already a rule that both players can play on any map they both agree on.

I would vote cry but I know you are man and true men only cry hotblooded man tears and since he has not killed your kung fu master you cannot shed them by man-law! So you instead must observe your sub-right to get drunk with your friends then lament the decision of Zellsf. OR you are required to headbutt him firmly in a nose at the right angle that shall produce large quantities of BLOOD!

maplist updated for now

Also i was thinking of changing the way about how the challenge takes place to make it more "mod skill" rather than "map skill" based.

1) The map is decided by a third party (I do have some ideas about how this could be done

2) Best out of 3 system, where the challenger picks 2 and king picks 1, kings map played second.

Personally I like option 1 because that way it will be skill based, or more so rather picking maps. Opinions?

The point is KoAA would have worked fine if speedmetal and greenfields didn't exist, but adding all this extra crap to it is more likely to kill it than make it more active. A short banlist and MAYBE a 2 of 3 system like in option 2 has the best potential to be longlasting. A really great player could win on any map, including the crap ones that derailed KoAA. While they might lose once to someone with a highly prepared build order, they could just watch the replay, see the weaknesses in the strategy and beat it with their own. That's skill. Limiting "normal" maps (rather than just speedmetal/greenfields) just shows that your judgment of what is skill is strongly biased towards what you are good at, rather than what is skill simply.
