Spring RTS Engine

Is this a whole new game or is it just the same modes as TA with all the campain missions but in a 3d engine?

It is an entirely new game, with a new map format and other things. Many (but not all) of the mods are based on TA, and the whole thing was inspired by TA. The UI uses many of the good things about the TA UI, but it is separate and distinct from TA.

when I install it will there be a seperate .exe for spring and the normal game?

This is no addition to TA, Spring doesn't need TA to run at all, either. Furthermore there are no "default" data files which contain all the basic game data, this is handled by mods (as in game packages).

Also, do not install Spring to the same directory as TA. I believe this can cause some datafile conflicts.

Spring is just a excellent gaming engine. The only relation it haves to TA is that it was inspired by it and most of its games are "TA based", what doesnt mean you need TA to run them.

Spring is a game engine originally designed to run Total Annihilation multplayer (it doesnt run the single player campaign) in 3d, it does that and there are several versions of it, balanced annihilation and xta being the best/most popular.
In addition there are other games (referred to as mods) you can play, spring is not just ta based anymore, check out Nanoblobs, EE, or Gundam among others.

One thing that spring doesnt come with is a warning, so i'll give you one now.

Be warned! this engine and accompanying mods are highly addicctive, so say bye bye to your social life and be prepared to be late for work, everyday, for the rest of your spring playing career ^^
