Spring RTS Engine

How well does spring run under these Operating systems if at all? Do they have track records of issues generally? Are they particularly bad for gaming?

Is anybody running spring with one of these operating systems? And should I expect spring under them to be the same as spring under XP 32 bit.

I tried Spring on either beta 1 or beta 2 of Vista and it worked at that time. I also have an RTM Vista testbox, but its got a Radeon 9000 Mobile in it without an OpenGL driver so I can't test Spring. If anyone has an extra hard drive and a PC with a Nvidia 5xxx or newer videocard they should try Spring with Vista. Vista can install for up to 90 days without a key entered, so if you can borrow an RTM DVD from someone you know, you should be okay for testing for a few days. By the way, ATI doesn't yet have a Vista driver with OpenGL on it, so if you have an ATI card don't be surprised if Spring fails to work.

Edit: As far as Server 2003 goes, I could try it on a server at work MAYBE, if we have a decent videocard in one of them.

There's also X64 versions of Server 2003 and all the Vistas too.

Server 2003 runs fine on desktops, I had one running in a virtual machine and it ran very fast considering, I've heard it has a lot of performance improvements XP hasnt got.

As it stands I can download Vista business edition, server 2003 and XP Pro x64 via MSDN AA. However I have 7GB of free HD space on this computer and I'm really asking because I plan on a new computer.

Server 2003 runs on laptops too, but that doesn't make it a good fit. I'd suggest sticking with XP Pro for now, then move to Vista in a few months when Nvidia and/or ATI release good drivers for it.

As a side note, Vista runs pretty well on 1 gig of ram, but I'd suggest going for 2 gigs. I'd also suggest waiting two months for the midrange DirectX 10 cards from ATI & NVidia.

I know but I should have said "what're the DX10 880GT and GS then?"

To which the correct answer (as I was told via MSN) would be "high end" and "very high end". As I was curious if they where low end (8900 8850's etc) or high end (8200's 8600's etc)
