Out of pure curiousity I'm wondering how many of you hang out with 'techie' type people IRL? I just realized that none of my real life friends even know what spring is: let alone how to use a dos console or create a webpage.

Most of my friends are at least proficient with computers, and the ones that aren't are always fun to pick on

Computer games based course means most of them can speak techie, but not all know how a computer works
And outside of that? Well, I know someone who thinks that just because you have access to the files on your computer means you're qualified to edit them, someone who for 4 years didn't have a firewall, a virus scanner or a spyware scanner and wondered why his computer ran slowly, and someone who's proud of the fact he can fit an SATA drive into a machine...

Some of my friends, the words they use to speak about computers... I probably shouldnt repeat them. Most of the people I hang around, probably dont even know how to re-install windows. Though Im not really sure, computers isnt really my main area if interest, its not something I get together with friends and BS about. Guns, cars/trucks, and booze is a more standard "BSing" topic, or anything related to fire.
Though im not any better myself. I rarely use "technical" terms when speaking about computers, just many four-lettered sentance enhancers, which probably ends up making me seem as computer-knowledable as
larry the cable guy.

I don't have any RL friends

Its probably because Ive had this terrible body odour problem since I was 12 that I just can't seem to shake off, Its like Ive smeared everlasting, rotten curry in ma pits or somethin, couple that breath that makes a sewer smell like roses and distinct lack of social skills and...

None. The only thing they know is how to work an ipod and what a hardrive is.... Most of them think the hard drive is the most important part. Infact some of them think that a hard drive is a computer.

Most of my friends know enough about computers to use them, but none of them are techies or anything. Some of them are gamers, but thats about the limit.

They laugh when at you when you say "that guy got Pwned!"
fixed for people who actually have friends who are computer programmers. Most techies think that leet talk is asinine.

Seconded.
I have vast mix... From running Linux for the past 6 years to kicking the tower when something crashes. >_>

Kicking the tower feels so good though.
Also, my mates are techies.

One guy installed Linux some time ago (and formatted his hard drive (and ROM, apparently

) when trying to update it recently), quite a few of them are gamers, and the only real "nerd" I know is of a whole other type; the type that LARPs and draws dragons when bored.
I really, really, REALLY need some computer-nerd/sci-fi-geek friends in real life. Also, I'd really love to learn how to play D&D

I generally choose my friends and I can say none of them have a major brain damage caused by online games.
