Spring RTS Engine

This is an occurrence I've seen often in the games and on the forums,

basically it is insulting someone by saying that they are an age such as 15.

After a little browsing on the forums I've seen such posts as this one:

Wikipedia is your gigantic encyclopedia constantly being updated by 15 year olds.

This isn't the only time this has occurred, and this isn't the only online game where this occurs.

Insulting someone by implying that they are such an age is insulting to those who are those ages.

The 15yo stereotype is not true, if it was, the above text would be filled with excessive swear words, poor English and leetspeak.

I would also like to point out that I am 15 as well. I'm making a half-decent mod, and write and doodle in my spare time.

To be fair, however, most 13-15 year olds are idiots. We literate ones are the exception rather than the rule

I don't think it matters. Age is the easiest way of implying maturity, and so it will continue to be used. As for the wikipedia comment...well...the guy with the most edits on wikipedia is 15 or 16, I seem to recall.

Edit: Here. I can either say, the general populace of young people aren't that smart. Or generally speaking, 12-15 yearolds arent the brightests bulbs in home depo... Its just in my opinion I meet alot of stupid kids my age, where if I did try to debate them 1. They either cry. 2. They either change the subject before they loose. 3. They dont know the topic enough to debate about it and as a scapegoat try to insult me which backfires on them. Besides it was a small joke.

So some younger people can say things a bit to rash and forget about otherts.
When older people start to insult them, I think they are not better.

It's a shame we have such a topic roughly every 2 month. And people stop contributing to Spring becouse of the lack of respect for eachother.
Especially those who put a lot of effort and time in this. Some players run blindly to the download button and insult people when you find something they don't like, as if they payed 200€ for this.

A solution is not found yet, and I can't think of one.

Hehe, thats so true. Though to be fair it's not so much intelligence you gain as a plethora of charecter traits and social adeptness and experience that is all summed up by 'maturity'.

That's not to say you can't be 15 and more mature than a specific 20 year old, but you will be more mature when you're 20 compared to when you were 15.

People will still want somehow to moderatly insult those who come up with dumb ideas, write poorly or with many substitutions.

I think you are right and that, if you want that changed, you need to propose something diferent to be used as moderate insult and that is more acerate than pointing out probable age.

I will start by giving one examplary alternative:
- eh-lit speaker.
- IRC prat(?).
- ...

Well the fact that you make a thread about it confirms it as well. Anyway, this isn't really a stereotype. It's just another way of telling someone he's a complete moron, independent from age.

im 16, but generally i dont feel insulted by such comments. Why? because i know they arent targeted at me. Hell, i even use the stereotype myself
