EvOTA

News:

April 30: The new update contains the first two metal maps that were released last night. As you can see, the size of the package is snowballing rapidly, mostly due to the maps (actually mostlye due to Redfish). Now that the package has a fair amount of content, I want to space the releases out a bit, maybe once a week or so. If i'm releasing a new version every day, downloading it becomes more of a hassle than a convenience.

For the moment, i'd recommend you prefix games with EvOTA2 if you're playing the new maps.

I'm also going to attempt to start uploading versions to Fileuniverse.

April 29: Ok, there's alot of confusion in the battle rooms about who's running what mods, so myself (and to a certain extent Dwarden), at the urging of others have decided to establish a standard that i'm calling EvOTA, because it includes the Evolva models and the OTA patch.

The latest version of the zip file contains:
- OTA unit settings patch
- All Evolva unit models
- Gods of War (Redfish)
- Redhaven (zwzsg)
- Metal Heck 2 (Redfish)
- Crosspaths (Tangaroa)

The zip file will be updated as more maps, etc are released.

If you are hosting an EvOTA game, please prefix the game name with EvOTA.

Downloads:
Cumulative: EvOTAv2.zip (30,123 kb - April 30 2005)
Update (requires v1): EvOTAv1-2.zip (18,486 kb - April 30 2005)

Older versions:
EvOTAv1.zip (12 mb - April 29 2005)

Instructions
Extract the zip file into your Spring directory. It's as simple as that.

To play an OTA game without having the notification area flooded with "out of sync" errors, just rename the Objects3D directory in the Spring directory, and restore it when you're done.

Not my mod, just a compilation of the most popular ones into a convenient and less confusing download. :P

Notice: I'm going to release v2 when Metal Heck 2 is released, along with anything else that's been released until then.

Don't bother with putting the maps in there, or at least seperate the downloads, and someone should just decompile the OTA settings and insert the 3dos into that, maybe I will... :P

I offered to do that in the chat room, but people said they'd prefer them separate. :?

Also, i'm putting the maps in the zip at the moment just so there is a larger selection of maps for people to play from (without having to constantly send people to download the map).

Files sizes are too big look here for better archive sizes and each files standalone:

You do realise that by adding those things, OTA units and remade maps, you are making this all that more illegal right?

Oh good lord. Let's not get into a lengthy debate on copyright law.

Everyone wants to play TA. Most people here own (or owned TA). I have a full install of TA on my computer. I feel that it is perfectly legitimate to run content I have a right to view in one engine on another engine.

Besides, if you've downloaded Spring and you're running the same content as everyone else, you have to own TA, right? Because we all read the legal warning:
Some of the downloads includes the TA mod XTA which, like all TA mods, contains content from the game Total Annihilation. Therefore you will have to own a copy of TA to legally use this content.
Therefore, it's safe to assume that anyone using the packs can legally do so.

is UT2004 Total Annihilation mod illegal ?
Probably.

I just wanted to point it out.

It may be that atari just don't care.

In my opinion, EvOTA is both useful and not. First of all, it's a kinda unity patch that bumps all players up to same level when it comes to OTA and evolva, but then, I consider it to be a personal problem to download the maps one want. After all, if you don't have the map, you probably know it. I don't think pushing this to a v2 just by including extra maps is such a good idea. For some of us, it's just a cumbersome redownload of the stuff we got (unless, for some reason knowing the difference between the packs). EvOTA is a great idea, v2 is not.

how about EvOTA map pack?

EvOTA is a map pack, disconsidering the first release, which is why I say the v2 isn't useful at all.

For V2, there's "cumulative" and "update". I think evOTA as whole is a really good initiative, hopefully it'll help reduce the incompatibilities between Spring players and so make spring crash less.

But then it's just a map pack... And uh, if you don't have the map, I'm sure you are aware of it.

Are you going to slowly (juste a little, like -5% cost, little more armor for unused units) balance the game? (of course, keep the original role of the unit, the thing I don't like in XTA is that some laser shot longer than popup cannon. But in OTA, I don't like army of flashes and Samson...)

And I would really see new race like TLL or Rumad in TA. Is EvoTA a mod for me? Or adding new race is out of questions.
