Ask the respective mods author(s) and/or read their licenses (if they have any).

First: Look for licenses/terms of usage files in the mod distribution. If they exist you can work within the terms of those licences. If they do not exist most of the mod's content will fall under general copy write, that is to say it cannot be publicly distributed at all without the modders permission, and this includes modifications of the original content. If the latter is true you must ask the mod author for permission to use and redistribute his content, even on a private scale. The only thing you can do in terms of modifying general copy write is modification purely for personal gratification. AFAIK none of our mods are fully populated with public domain content so there is no mod I can tell you right now that you can use without consequence.

*sigh*

Spring is GPL.

The Modders HAVE followed those rules, but do not HAVE to allow someone to work on their work, all they do is release the code they have done.

Use nanoblobz, you can use that without consequence, it's all GPL'ed original content by Argh, and he's repeatedly stated that he wants users to use it to see how things work and as a starting point.

Also, XTA and AA seem ok todo that with as many many variants have been based off of them. Originally nanoblobz 0.1 used the 5 or 6 AA units as placeholders...

...but leave his GPL headers in place.

And feel free to try to "balance" NB or use it to create some weird new game design :-)

I don't believe so, but I could be wrong... Ask in the XTA dev thread.

Pretty sure you can't get autorization to go ANYTHING. However you CAN get authorization to do many things.

No body edits my mod but me..

you can ask fang politely, suggest in detailed explinations, with backing, and viable truths, and maybe, just MAYBE make the tweak for him, and show it to him... IF he approves, IF AND ONLY IF!, he'll put it in the mod himself, and maybe add your name to the bottom as a contributor...

I know this because, I've been attempting to do this...
he's stubborn, and its a DAMN good thing too... :-)

Can we take your mod apart to see how it works, though?

As many mods have copied much content of ota, i cannot see any reason why you could not take any mod you want and start working on it. As long as you give the appropriate credits.

Atleast i would modify whatever mod i want, give credit to everything in the "new" mod that has not been done by me, and not give a crap about whiners.
