if you make the factory group 1 then all units made by it will become group 1 too

so when you press 1 you can give orders to the factory, which it will give to the units it builds, as well as the units in the group as well

i agree... sometimes i do wish that it was like in TA (if a factory is in a group and you select it, the factory isnt selected), but i've gotton used to it

its good when you want everything going the one way, then you're not losing anything by issuing orders to un-built units

You mean assigning a group to a factory then having everything it builds join that group?

This is in OTA and it is in spring, so please dont request features for groupAIs that the engine already has.
