Any mods have aircraft carrier or air base units in them?

I'd like to see how anyone has managed to create either aircraft carriers or air base units. I'm not talking repair pads, but actual base type units. I heard its possible and would like to see how they were implemented.

An Airbase/carrier would house aircraft inside it and launch them when needed.

Your unit initiates its flight mission from the base unit. On the other hand it only refuels and repairs on the pad.

Id love to show you that, but ITS NOT POSSIBLE IN THE ENGINE...

I dont know where you got the impression that such a functionality exists, but as far as I know this is not possible, A while back, Smoth seperated the IsAirBase=1; tag into 2 different tags in a patch, because at that time due to OTA throwbacks it was being used to designate a unit as an air repair pad, but also to designate it as a transport that could have the unit fire and do stuff from.. Smoth was under the mistaken impression that seperating these to functions into 2 different tags would avoid some confusion/bugs and make gameplay smoother (he was of course rebuffed horribly by the community for even thinking of making such a patch, clearly he is a buffoon)

Anyways, IT is not possible to have aircraft land and be stored inside an aircraft carrier, and when the carrier its told to attack the aircraft launch out and attack something, nor is it possible to have an aircraft forcibly land on something (airbase or otherwise).. so this is not possible..

Shame it doesn't work that way. It would of opened up alot of cool mod possibilities, like cruise missile launchers and such. Was at least hoping they could be sat on the pad until launch at least.

He was deriding the position of those who attacked Smoth. I can't find a translation but in Germany we call that Erlebte Rede and it already cost a politician his job when he used it to describe the stance the public held towards Jews in the Nazi era.

cruise missile launchers
errr, try building a lvl 2 shipyard in any OTA based mod and you'll find a missile ship hat launches cruise missiles. There's also the merl and diplomat in the lvl 2 vehicle factories, and the diplomat in the core lvl 2 kbot factory.

I'd be interested in seeing an ingame screenshot from you madrat that you made.

Smoth made a patch that addressed a serious bug, and although it broke maybe about half a dozen units in 2-3 mods, and required a small fix to rearrange, it seperated 1 tag into 2 and stopped the whole aircraft landing on mobile transports.. Smoth was critisized heavily for it, and many people (who were not coders) commented on his implementation.. IF I recall it is the only patch submitted that was treated in such a manner..

However that retarded E-drama is neither here nor there..

Case in point, aircraft cannot be stored in carriers ala Homeworld/Supcom/Starcraft...

As for stockpilelable missiles, that can be done easily, the current nuke missiles do it, and you can easily apply it to any weapon and put said weapon on any unit, unfortunately its limited to 1 per unit, but meh.. gets the job done..

Im not sure how the above would facilitate this, since aircraft are not effective at self destructing..

Not necessarily although that applies as well.

Did the patch get implemented or did those whiners succeed in keeping Spring limited to playing TA with different graphics?

Smoth probably has no desire to put forward any other radically progressive patches, and I can understand why.

Anyway, the engine cannot handle what you desire MadRat, and I don't know if we can implement it before OSRTS.

Maybe it would be possible to just use a kamikazi hover unit that has a zero footprint to simulate a cruise missile. Just have to give the unit a blank menu so that its movement has to be targeted out of the lab. Hmmm, might not work if its in a group and someone selects a move target for the group... will have to expiriment.

It was my understanding cruise missiles where launched like any other missile, and a prime example being tomahawk cruise missiles launched out of ships, just like the lvl 2 missile ship which launched missiles into the air where they then went to the enemy and blew up....

So again I ask madrat, what on earth are you going on about? we already have this its even in OTA.......
