Can you find high-poly renderings?

I have one here.

A Hover Tank from Thunder Brigade, one of my favorite joystick optimised games. Clearly extremely high polygonal, not to mention those grids are 3d.. I saw that during the introduction, they all had their own shadows! Sweet.

Can you find a high-poly rendering?

That's a pretty underwhelming shot there, in my opinion. Neither the "turret" nor the "gun" have any mechanical details that would suggest they can actually rotate. The skin is remarkably bad for a professional title- if you look at the turret where it joins the body, they didn't even blend the two areas at all. And the background terrain looks like a random heightmap with a few blobs and a random shader, with another render being used for the far background. Even the lightsources don't match very well :P

And the greebles on this thing are just kind've random- the don't have a sense of clear mechanical purpose, and they're not well-integrated with the rest of the skin.

By modern standards, this is not a terrific model. You wanna see terrific models and rendering technique... somewhere like this... That is what high skill looks like ;)

In reply, the turret doesn't rotate. The game didn't need a accelerator card at all. The model would have been made simply to sell the game. But yeah, thats a horrible high poly render.

It's horrible, but it is still high poly

Edit: Argh, you blinded me with that site, I saw a spongebob :(

I would think someone professional as that would have outgrown that cartoon...

Wasn't it

a minute before?

Uh and yeah, it looks like some cheap 97's box art render.

That's hardly what I would call high poly.

Underwhelming, as Argh pointed out.

I said sweet cuz each little poly had its own shadow, not cuz it was a really good model :-)

Erm.... the shadows on the grille isn't anything special at all, any decent render engine can do the same or even better.

Hah! One problem, that engine ran it during the cutscenes like that, that is why I meant it was good.

Even Wings3D can render shadows

Looks more like a 30 ton IS mech for house Liao... or something. Think it was in MC2, dunno though and forgot the name either.

Fanger: its based of the Battletech Wasp, but the design is shared with Macross/Robotech as well. :P

Modelled for the movie project.

Yes.... whats your point? So what if the engine ran cutscenes that showed the shadows on the grille? Why is it even a problem?

And why the self-contradiction?

First you say its cool cause there's shadows, now you agree that its nothing special.

(im sure your already aware of this wolf, but rattle seems to be confuzzled)

Wow.. that is a blatant robotech macross ripoff, borrow design (not yours specifically but the mech it was based on..) interesting..

they could have been a little less obvious..

Actually Battletech is based off Robotech afaik.

Not all of it, but as far as I recall, 6-7 of the early mech designs were copied almost exactly from the macross/robotech series..

the Warhammer, and Maurader being to prime examples, and this Wasp mech you speak off..
