I am now the nazi of my computer, and I have eliminated FOURTEEN GIGS OF MICROSOFT BULLSHIT!

Not to mention about 140k in RAM of automatic startup stuff (That doesn't appear on the bottom bar)

Anybody else dislike microsoft putting so much shit in your computer?

edit: Plenty of other HP things I can delete, too...

Nasty automatic installed things...

edit2: Holy crap, whiped 2 more gigs off...

I'm on a roll

it's your choice to install it.

To be fair... there isn't realy much choice... (I mean Linux is cool, and genraly better in every way, but because of the lack of other people using it makes it not realy sutible for most people.)

Really? Try to buy a computer (or even worst, a laptop) without buying Windows attached. (that is, not one of those computers that is assembled piece by piece chosen by you)

And then, show me the selection of games you will be able to play in anything else than Windows. (well, actually it isn't all that bad now, which is why so many people are starting to change to Ubuntu and Suse, but it's still not enough.)

Can't support this whining, honestly. All it needs is to use your brain the second you install windows. Also I don't get what you are refering to, my Win2k partition uses 2.7 gig of 5 gig available and at least one (or more) gig is not system dependent stuff. :?
Good advice: never buy preinstalled PCs. If you (or parents) still do that, format them and setup the system (of choice) yourself.

Paulo: Powerbooks don't come with Windows but they should be able run it. They're prefered by a lot of linux users and are generally faster than other laptops. 8)

Careful, prebuilt PCs can come with "recovery CDs" instead of proper installation CDs that will put all the crap back on your system because the manufacturer got paid by the crap makers to put that crap there.

And unlike said, PowerBooks can not run Windows. They're not using the right type of processor.

So they're not switched over to Apple's current CPU yet?

Sorry my bad... I meant the MacBooks, they come with Intel Duo CPUs.

"You're free to use it"
Bah! There are many situations where you're forced to use it. Besides, it comes preinstalled on almost any PC. You're of course free to use a proper OS on your own system...
Oh, and don't get me started on Macs. Their design and GUI makes me wanna smash my head against a wall.
That's why I prefer Linux. You can make it pretty, but if you want a OS you can actually work with, you can do that, too.
The only problem is, that if you're a power-user coming from Windoze, you've gotta learn how to do things first. If you manage that, you have the most powerful OS I've seen to date.

I cant condone or tolerate whining like this, especially not when it comes to things that are the direct result of user incompetence.

Though short of a 10-page long lecture, Ill just leave it be with this:

If you dislike something, dont buy it. Obviously this is not a computer at your job, otherwise your asking to get fired... No, this is your pc, that you are in control of. Microsoft never put anything on it, use a different OS or buy a mac.

Bah, I wish, my parents bought it. And if I want an operating system, I am sure I don't want microsoft excel demo, or microsoft media Plus! only to find out upon opening it that I don't have the full version, and that if it is going to do anything besides occupy 500 megabytes of hard drive space each, I have to purchase the full version. What's worse it came with the computer. Demos, demos, demos, space, space, space wasted. As far as os'es go, sure. I could do it. One problem, my parents paid for the comp. So they won't let me. They wouldn't be able to accept the change. If I get this moved to my room, and its mine, then I'll do away with Windows, if it seems like a good idea. I don't see a reason why I would need to, though. I already got rid of the crap.

So I can sympathize with anyone else who has the problem.

Let me guess.. This is either a dell or an HP with about 5 DVDs worth of spyware/demo-ware loaded onto it? Ive purchased every version of windows with the exception of vista, none of them have come with spyware/demo-ware on that level. If you want to point fingers and blame someone, blame whatever company that pc came from.

http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/

I would reccomend that, its about as good as its going to get. If you have at least 512MB ram, hit F2 when it gets to its initial loading screen and tell it to load itself into ram. Its damn fast, damn small, you can screw it up as much as you want... restart the pc and its like new again 8).
