Speedtactics

Idea of a mutator, name speedtactics. its very simple. start with AA.

a Mod where there is no building.. at the start, each player starts with a galactic gate which creates infinite energy, and no metal. the gate can build any mobile unit in the game, but you only have the metal you get at the start of the game with to build an army. so, with 1000 starting metal you might build 100 fleas, or 1 main battle tank. more resources = bigger battles. the galactic gate build anything at ultra speed (like 30x speed of a kbot lab.)

as a result, players build a customised army to suit their tactic and then assault the enemy galactic gate. one player might use all their resources on a super weapon only to find their opponent using a cloaking sniper to teabag their galactic gate. beause of finite resources, you might leave some metal more making reserved, or making scouts, or making a gunship swarm. galactic gates have, say 10,000 health but dont auto heal.

this would lead to games of tactics as players mauver, defend and attack, retreat units to regen and mass all their forces to take out on player. this kind of mod could also be made for XTA, EE or any other mod.

just as an idea ^^

Edit: it wouldnt make long to make either. for speed, could just use a krog gantry model in place of the galactic gate

wow what a great thing the world is, idiotic ideas get repeated hundreds of times.

How about this: AA Handicapped. The two comms get their arms and legs removed (also their respective weapons and mobility reduced to nada). Then you have to fight it out.

Or this: AA Altzheimer. Comms get put in a wheel chair instead (for the fun of it) but have altzheimer which results in randomized buildtrees for both sides. Shouldn't be too hard to write a small app which randomizes the sidedata. 8)

So yeah I kinda agree with min3 on this one... :P

And if all metal is used up, the galactic gates just bump each other until they die!

Hm, Nanoblobs might be what you are looking for, its fast and choatic.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to fight with set armies, or are you saying that the Total War series are a bad idea?
The only problem is tweaking things so that neither side gets an advantage by staying still.

Points based battles would be interesting, and also make the Warhammer mods more interesting.... :)

it is VERY VERY VERY unlikly that both players units all totally destroy eachother and both players run out of resources. the factory would be ungaurded. if it helps, it could produce 0.5 metal or somthing insignifcant.
where has this been done before? I like the idea of point based battles for a quick explosive romp and it would make a good showcase for noobs that isnt speedmetal.
how the hell it is similar to a steven hawkins commander mode is beyond me. its just a variation on the resource model: limited forces and use of tactics. it has the same balancing as the mod its based on.
and no, nanoblobs is not the answer.

I actually did something close to this a while ago with an old 1944 beta. It was called a zero sum game - that is, there was no (or very, very little) metal production, and every unit left a corpse (actually a stylized 'gift box' - a dragon's tooth) worth exactly the amount it took to produce.

It was interesting, but 1944 was probably the wrong mod to do it with, since engagements tend to be VERY quickly decided. At least at the scale I was working with, one MG or a few good rifle volleys could pretty much decide the game.

It was neat trying to protect cons as they sucked up corpses though. If anyone is interested, I'll upload it to UF, assuming I can find it.
