TBH, I didn't care for his 30k limit, or the fact that it was for vehicles only.

Limit: None

Type: Any

Restrictions: Nothing perverted, must have some skill and effort put into it

Have fun... I have something brewing, hehehehe

Interesting, but Atari doesn't know what it is probably..

That's not the point. If the models should be conform to the GPL they can't be in violation with the intellectual property of someone else. That is why I am asking...

If you carbon copy something from another game you'd be in violation with the GPL, IF this is about GPL'd models. The other competitions are. I think argh is better at explaining things concerning that... :)

Here's an article from the wikipedia about it.

carbon copy ?

As i see it, there is nothing that prevents you from doing a model that looks like ie. an ak from OTA and use it. If you have made it, you own the copyrights to it, even how similar it would look to some existing unit.

Where can you draw the line ? Are all 2 legged robots copies of whoever introduced them first, mechwarrior ? no.

No. I meant making a model which looks exactly like something from another game, not a model inspired by something. What ever, let's not derail this thread.

Well, I never said the models had to be GPL compliant, did I? :-)

I think the implication is that if you are modelling something very complex, use a lot of polys. If you are modelling something that isn't very complex, don't simply up the "polycount" slider.

If you actually included the tremendous amount of surface detail the Death Star had, then I'm sure your polycount would be acceptable.

Quoting myself... oh the Death Star IS very comlpex, it made my poor CPU die on me.

...and it was intended to be a joke. To point out that a limit would be of good use, or some rules.

Ahahaha, The Gunship!! Truly, one of my best yet.

Clocking in at 2.2k tri's, this monster packs dual artillery cannons and enough guns to blow a colony to hell. Quite a heavy vehicle, uses the hover system to move, but is still slow. This Gunship has served us quite a lot in our feuds with each other, maybe it shall prove its worth against the Hierarchy, too...

If, by suspiciously like, you mean...VERY LIKE!

And very good, too.

Is this competition about bad low poly models or about high poly models? There's really no market for a 2000 poly model that looks like it could be done with 700 polys. There is however quite a market for a 40000 poly model that looks like it could be done with 5000 polies

The thunderhawk isn't a "high poly model" it's a poorly optimized low poly model.

High-poly as in, if it is over 1000, feel free to enter it.

Yes, it could have been done with less, but apparently, its not something your likely to see swarms of...

What is this thunderhawk you speak of?

Edit: Damn warhammer junkys, mine hardly looks like one...

I tried to build the thing right below both of my pictures..

PS: The one on the bottom is the high poly version from Fallen Haven (It has like... 4,000 polies, no joking, I tried to count where they would all be, and I got a lot!)
