Anyone know if sidedata limits units by side choice?

Does the sidedata allow Core to build arm units and vice versa, if so written? In TA there was a limitation to only building units from the correct side, but the work around was to simply make every unit the same side. I'm tempted to write a homebrew mod with an expanded build tree that allows cross pollination of units from Core and Arm and just want to know before trying it out if it'll even work.

I believe you can, just uncompress a mod and look at the unit/build structure. I'm not sure however... there are a number of redundant units in mods like FF that simply have a version for each side. Of course, that may have been a decision of Optimus not to optimize.

Fang, Caydr, Argh, Optimus and Smoth should know for sure.

no they are not restricted by side.. that is not paid any attention by spring.. I know this because in a very early version of EE, only the GD commander was finished, so to put in the GD side, i simply had the GD commander build the URC tech tree, along with the URC commander, it worked fine..

Yup, Spring doesn't care.

You don't even need to specify a side in unit's definitions.

I guess you're right, you could build enemy units without a problem. I was thinking more along the lines of skirmish with an AI. You couldn't have the AI build units from the other side unless you captured the units in question then gave them to the AI. But you are correct in that building enemy units surely wasn't a limitation for human players.
