Generating unit list takes a while

Ok, so... I modified the copy of rev31.gp3 that comes with TAUCP. I turned it into a spring compatible mod(basically by ripping out useless directories that caused a crash and adding the modinfo file), and then made it depend on all the taucp-*.ufo files which i threw into the 'base' directory. Instead of my initial approach, which worked fine(as in just worked, not any faster than this method), I used the OTA mod instead of a modified copy of totala1.hpi and such from my copy of TA.
Both times I ran into a problem when attempting to start a battle on the spring server. When I tell it to host a battle with my TAUCP mod, it goes to 'generating unit list' which takes a bit longer than the server would permit. I got by this by modifying a copy of the TASServer and setting the timeout to 120 seconds (i didnt measure it, all I know is that it takes more than 30 seconds and less than 120). This worked fine, but I'd much rather play on the main server, since for some reason our connections work better that way(maybe its hamachi's fault).
Anyway I was wondering what could cause such a large slowdown when generating the unit list in the TASClient when I try to host a battle, I'm going to figure its not because of the number of units because hey, you have plenty of large mods that seem to work fine.
