Flashing Avatars

Some Animated Avatars make it hard to read and concentrate on the discussion. They make me want to scroll down a few posts past them, especially the flashing ones. Some studies indicate that rapidly flashing lights can cause brain hemorrhaging, and other health problems in some people, while I don├óÔé¼Ôäót have any problems my self, I still find some Animated Avatars uncomfortable. At least could the people with the annoying Animated Avatars change them?

(I repeat...) If you're on Firefox open up about:config, go to image.animation_mode, set it to once or none. Problem solved.

We can't disable them forum side. We could make rules against them and manually remove them from offenders, but then again, the people who are actually annoyed by them could download Google tool bar and block the image source. It's most likely significantly more work for us to moderate avatar content based on a fluid scale such as an arbitrary annoyance quotient then it is for you to block the avatars you find annoying yourself and not bother us about it.

I've deleted Bruce's post as it was offensive.

I agree this blinking avatars are very annoying, I'm removing those avatars and PMing people to change it now.

Hey, mine is a protest of the ludicresly small avatar sizes we have. i mean, 4 kbyte? half of the NON animted 80x80 pngs i have are bigger then that! Just make the size larger already.

Haven't seen you donating any money for the extra traffic that will cause. Oh it's entirely possible to make them, you only have to reduce colours which isn't all that bad. I'd like 100x100 8kb or 10kb ones as well but can live with 80x80 4kb.

Some animated avatars were very cool. Some are annoying. We all remember Agorm's wonderfull Spring eating avatar.

Animated avatars are OK, intentionally annoying flashing avatars such as Kixxe's aren't. At least this is the rule as I understand it.

This isn't really reasonable... Anything below 10 kb is quite negligible in terms of web traffic. Any post with any image probably comprises of more traffic then 300-400 avatars that size.

Wherever the moderators feel like drawing the line.

...I do hope that we can agree that Kixxe's avatar was an intentional annoyance.

Besides which, it's fairly easy to identify a "blinking" avatar, because it is one that blinks, and blinking is fairly easy to define.

The web server's storage capacity is in the several gig range, we're really not pushing it from avatars under 10 kb, we'd need almost a million users at that size for it to be a problem.
