They're part of a petition to have more avatar space. I think I may have set it off with my first entry in the animated gif thread

its really annoying to read a post where people with such an avatar posted something...i hope the kids remove them soon.

He's right. I've got a headache right now, and those kid's avatars only make it worse

We want more avatar space!

Seriously, 10 kb isn't bad..

I kinda like my avatar I have right now..

But if I wanna get another type of GIF that's pretty cool, I need at least 6kb..

In fact, you're likely to get less so that animations = impossible

isnt it possible to allow only jpg avatars? and noruas, i dont mean animations like yours, more the one of snipa but there are some which are even worse.

You don't need to waste more of the server's bandwidth so that you can have a prettier/flashier avatar. Hell, I've got them all adblocked because they do (as mentioned) tend to give me a headache. The current size limit is fine, even generous, considering that its a complete waste of bandwidth to have them enabled at all.

Most people here identify a poster by there avatar and not the name in text above it...... Hence why everyone thought andraesk was me because he stole my avatar and ignored me asking him to change it and he would post in the same threads as me to confuse people..

Firefox users can disable blinking avatars as well I just found out.
Open about:config in a tab, then set image.animation_mode to either once or none.

opera: right click | block content
firefox: install adblock plus, right click on image | adblock image
ie: suffer

Yeah, there are a number of threads complaining about this.

I think it will be dealt with swiftly, and all animated avatars banned.

Get Opera, press F12, uncheck "Enable GIF/SVG animation". Not sure where other browsers keep the equivalent option. Stops flashing avatars and ad banners, if you disable plugins as well the web suddently stops annoying you. For websites like Youtube that use flash for something you want just rightclick -> Edit site preferences, go to the Content tab and check Enable plug-ins, that enables them for this site only.

Like what? (Not that snarky tone, I am just asking) All I've done so far was change my avatar, now its changed back to the previous one..

And stare at the one in the animated gif thread that P3374H has.

It's black and white, more annoying than anything I have seen before. Again, I say, if I annoyed anyone I'm sorry..
