Spring RTS Engine

Honestly, come on. Does this really belong in spring? An RTS engine whom we are trying to show the best side?

Could we perhaps restrict map uploads to unknown files to mappers who actually make REAL maps? This is just stupid.

If it is a bad map no-one will download it. Players can make up their minds what they want to play.

While making real mappers look stupid.

It's the bad maps that get talked about in circles other that the spring forums (like other rts forums making fun of spring maps).

Some of us actually put some effort into this. FFS I'm damn near to the point of buying a map hosting server for hosting nothing but the real maps.

Could maybe real maps be seperated from "Joke" or "Dumb" maps? FFS.

also maybe a Remake section as well that would help steer the OTAers to certain maps...

oh and yes that map is made of fail so concentrated thats its very presence threatens the fabric of the universe.

I wouldn't take yourselves too seriously; if you've spent a long time handcrafting a map, people will appreciate it, and show their appreciation by playing it. Anyone who downloads the map will probably do so for a laugh, or is already a speedmetal player, so no great loss either way.

FA sorry but i thought about doing such stuff myself. Sex sells, even Spring -and sorry about that, but the Comander is not sexy - even in Spring... However, the Map should at least have good Gameplay, nice Metallspots - and a related Heightmap... as it maybee the first Spring Map that is ever touched by some puperty teens...

kinda like that would be good. However these kind of joke maps can be fun so we should tolerate them, but i agree sections would be a good idea.

I mean about 6 moths or so ago I physically went through my entire collection of maps just to remove the metal/porc/ahh my EYES!! maps. But with 400 maps now, of which probably at least 150 are quite good it would be nice to have a better indexed map page. Sortable by size, metal (type as well as max), water or land, ota etc.

Yeah, I know it's a big job (I keep meaning to do it myself on a spread sheet), but ti woudl be really, really nice.

This map isnt such a big deal imo.. its not like its shoved in peoples faces, or being used in springs logo or anything.

And don`t bash on the maker... Hydrix has done some other works... and i like Mapers who go ExperiMental... i should use the Chance to thank him in advance.. he prepared the Comunity for even worser things to come from other sides... I think we have to be prepared for even a "Comunity Fuck you!" Map ... and have to live with it. It is a basar and some take it for a Flea Market... there is nothing holy, and it is good so.

Uh, mappers have no lines to draw. The host of Unknown Files can choose which files he wants on his site, sure. If I ever host a game on a joke map, no one would have problems getting it anyway (I know how to send files over teh internets)

But mappers should stop bad maps? please. I doubt you can find a popular game which doesn't have joke maps. Do we laugh at Unreal Tournament 2004 for its poor maps? Counter-Strike? Starcraft?

Hell, did we decide to play those games in the first place because of their maps? I'm going to guess we didn't.

And then it's the problem of who chooses what is a joke map or not. The above listed games lets the players decide, I think that's what Spring should do too.

Right now, I'm guessing those other forums (link to one laughing at Spring's poor maps, please?) are busy laughing at the GUI anyway.

i cant say that i find the map offencive. i can imagine things much worse. all be it i wouldnt do anything more then send it to a friend for a laugh

in terms of how good of a map it is. i think a better job could of been made of turning the woman into a heightmap. n maybe making the stars into platforms...

but however i DO think there is a line that should be drawn. i mean the maps in essence arent much more then a collection of images. and some offencive stuff can be done with images

my proposal. is a recomendation system
if u like a map then u recomend it. then once it gets enough recomendations then it gets moved into a special list.

these lists would... i dunno, have download priority or something, and be considered the official maplist.

although that doesnt give much room for new awsome maps.

I honestly don't mind that the map is avaliable, or that somebody has made it. What matters is whether or not it is played.

Sheesh, don't worry about it! A few joke maps isn't going to irepairably ruin Spring's reputation. TA was chalk-full of joke units and maps and races and mods. So long as the joke-things aren't blatantly offensive, IMO it's a good thing, and shows people that Spring is flexible enough that you can fight with gigantic robot armies on some hot girl's titties. Now what other game can give you that!??!
