Governor Mark Warner is one of the possible candidates for American presidency competing for the democrats. In this speech I think he hits the nail on the head for EXACTLY what any nation in the world needs to be striving towards in this day and age. If I have one fair criticism of the bush regime, it's that they have never been forward thinking enough. While they strive for good, they assume that things aren't changing, and things ARE DEFINITELY changing. I'm not an American but if a man like this actually pulled off what he is promoting here then I may want to be yet.

We need international leadership and national leadership that is willing to make the changes to the world necessary to make the internet generation work. Any forward thinking leadership for any nation has my support.

Seriously, kill all the lobbyists with the rest, they are part of the problem.

The issue is that the people are not represented, they were never intended to be represented, and that is no longer acceptable, as times have changed. Proportional representation may be a step forward, but the structure of our government makes it a little more difficult to implement.

I agree that the chief shortcoming of essentially all executive leaders since LBJ (Who I would not like to get into at this point) is an inability to look forward, in terms of progress, and carry the legislative with them.

I myself identify merely as a progressive. There are things which must be changed, and they must be reformed rationally, something which the traditional radical has no measure of and the traditional reactionary has no tolerance for.

No, "reform" is not needed, "reform" is for pussies who want to change things but don't really want to risk anything doing it. "Revolution" is what is needed. Violent, bloody class warfare and self-liberation.

Also I can name more then a few revolutions that ended up making things worse. Most of them are communist, now to think of it...

Revolution seldom works, it is the recourse of the irrational progressive. In that it seldom works, you must understand that revolution entails destruction of infrastructure, and the destruction of infrastructure entails societal regression. You can't just jump from point A to point D, you need to develop though to point C before you can move to D. When you institute a revolution, the resultant nation is generally at a lower level than it was previously.

When you put it in those words, the American Revolution seems poorly worded. Maybe it should be the American Succession...thats what a succession is, right? Declaring yourself free of your parent nation...

The only reason I know that word is because I watched Babylon 5, wherein Seasons 1 thru 5 are all about how the Earth Alliance is taken over by a despotic 'Big Brother esque' president who rises to power by assassinating his rival, stirring up fear and hatred of the undefined 'other' in the human populace and then instituting thought-control programs...for our protection, of course...yep, Babylon 5 is great and If you haven't watched it...you SHOULD!

Sadly Mark Warner bowed out of the race stating that he would rather do family stuff then political stuff at this point in time, so this thread, even though it hasn't been remotely on topic to begin with, is now irrellevent either way.
