Improved missile guidance

The idea comes from Freespace: Missiles that instead of flying towards the target fly towards the point of expected rendevouz, i.e. they'd aim at the point a unit would aim at when trying to shoot at the target. This reduces the way the missile travels to reach the target and greatly increases the hit rate for fast targets like planes since the missile no longer trails the target but hits from the front instead. The missile would need a special tag to use this behaviour instead of the standard one, though to avoid messing up the balancing in mods that expect the dumb missile behaviour.

I am up for anything that gives the missles a more realistic appearance in flight. Most of the missle beavhior I have seen playing EE, AA, and XTA look pretty silly (i also think many of the modders have put the missle speed up too high).

missiles don't already try to lead a target? That doesn't sound right... I need to check...
[edit] nevermind, they head toward their targets current heading up until the last moment, and then they try leading their target[/edit]

I've got some ideas about this. Will write it out in a bit- it's rather long.

also, homing missiles shouldn't spin in circles if they lost their target... they should either explode or continues straight... also, does burnblow work with them? if so, then it should be on so they don't circle around and blow up your own base...

Real Life AntiAir Missiles also work with the Go Ahead Princip - the Planes are damaged by the Missile Pieces-Particles they "crash" into. This also Explains why Missiles can hit Whole Groups of Jets if they fly in close Formation...
I may be wrong...

Missiles allready predict their target allthough not perfectly, so the missile path can be slightly curved even if the target is moving in a straight line.

Aiming for intercept is easy, just keep the angle to your target constant. (that's how you spot potential collisions when navigating ships too, if the angle to the other ship stays constant you're going to collide (except if you move parallel or directly away from each other)...)
