I've been really curious lately, because, at the moment it seems as though the only major mappers that are using L3DT are myself and Forboding.

If the rest of u aren't using L3DT to get good texturemaps. What are u using?? I'm just curious as i want to start looking into alternatives.

I use l3dt and occasionally bryce. I don't really care for bryce though. The way the texture is applied in bryce is 180 degrees from the way that l3dt applies them, and I think that textures done in l3dt are pretty much perfect for spring.

Terragen is pretty neat, but there are some things about the way that it applies textures that I really do not care for at all.

With l3dt you pretty much have full control, and that is the main reason that I use it.

EDIT: BTW quanto, you need to start importing your heightmaps as design maps and let l3dt redraw the heightmap in 32bit for you. The contours on your small maps do not look good at all. Also, you need to start using bump mapping (terrain normals and light map, as well as defining a bumpmap image in your climate) on your textures.

My problem is that i don't want to spend an entire 6 hours babysitting it. (the fact that i have to hit OK or some other button between every step means that i have to sit at the computer for a very long time. And that gets tedious.)

I also can't use L3DT right now, as my license has offically called itself dead. The program won't accept my code no matter how many times i enter it. So i'll be taking a back seat from mapping until;
1) i find a new program
or
2) i pull myself out of my financial hole and buy a single-user license for L3DT.

[Edit/Supplimental Data]
My main reason for all this is that i would like to produce a well done Remake for my very first map "Conqueror's Isle" and I'm pissed that L3DT won't run. :evil: [End Edit]

Just FYI, the new version has a wizard with which you can queue up all the operations and hit go, so you can now walk away from it.

It may be that I've cocked-up the validation code. Could you send me a copy of the debug.dat file from the L3DT path (to aaron@bundysoft.com)?

Best regards,
Aaron.

Personly? Terregen, Photoshop, +L337 skills.

Also, with the advent of features being common place, and people expecting them to be in maps, i find myself in Wings most nights now... God dam it thats uped teh amount of time it takes to map.
