Oooh joy.... Huston, we MAY have a problem

Well, as an avid fan of HALO in the sense of go around killing aliens, and a fan of C&C generals for much the same reason, except with just all humans, I was obviously a fan of the Halogen mod for Generals.

However, I have been told recently that they receved a cease and desist order from Microsoft about HaloGen. They have therefore closed down the mod, despite it being not for profit.

If this is happening to free, not for profit mods, what is the future for Spring while it continues to use OTA stuff in it?

Isn't this an MTR  The fastest solution is to not include XTA in the default installation. There are several non-ta mods in development that could be bundled with spring instead. Besides you have to own OTA to legally play XTA/AA. Doesn't seem like much of a problem at all.

This is Microsoft dealing with a mod based on a property that's pretty much the only thing the XBox has going for it. Of course they're going to gib it.

Whoever the hell owns the TA license now probably doesn't give a damn about it. It's a ten-year-old game, any attempts at making a sequel will be eclipsed by Supreme Commander, so there's no money at risk.

I'm not sure about OTA, its very old now. I don't think Cavedog entertainment even exists now. Halo I can understand, as microsoft is not yet done releasing Halo sequels.

Doesn't Atari own OTA now?

E&E just needs some non-copyrighted textures and it'll be good to go.

Yes Halogen was given a C&D and is offically shutdown.

Infogrames actually owns the IP now as Atari sold it to them.

Yes E&E needs custom textures though i think it also needs new scripts???

The scripts would be taken care of whenever the devs get LUA working properly.

I thought Infogrames purchused the name Atari and then renamed themselves.

Correct.

The TA licence is worth 3 million dollars or something. Atari will sell it any time soon, because they have no monies. lolz.

maybe they'll sell it to Valve and valve will hire away all our best mappers, modders, devs and artists and a year later release "Total Annihilation: The New Birth of War", an RTS based on the Source Engine.

Apparently the source engine is horrible for RPGs and RTSs...

Yeah NS was a combo and there will be one for source as well. Their is also the Empires mod for HL2 which is a hybrid in the same sense.
