Dynamic water causes slowdown even when there's no water?

Hi! I just noticed the other day playing on Comet Catcher that there's a big performance decrease from having dynamic water enabled, even though there's no water on the map. Is this a known bug? Or is it a "there's water on every map, if you dig deep enough!" kind of thing? If it's the latter, maybe some sort of patch to dynamically render water only where water actually shows would be neat. Are there any sort of settings that enable this?

It is the latter.
perhaps mapmakers who do purely land-based maps should practice using the Voidwater tag (or whatever it is called, that makes water invisible) in the future.

I use voidwater 1 on all my maps, always have, and unless I plan on messing with water, I always will.
It saves a buttload of performance, either way if there is a water plane that is not voided out, it will always render the reflections and taht causes slowdowns bigtime.

orly? Very interesting. I'll have to remember that if I ever get my new maps finished. (from like 8 months ago or something)
