3do to s30?

So in upspring I can save an 3do as s3o and all I need to do is fix the textures?

Are there any simply programs not over complicated (such as blender) that allow me to apply a texture to each face from a file, with a few options such as orientation and how to stretch the textures for a non perfectly fitting face and then make a uv map out of that with the textures in the correct place instead of just highlighted areas?

Probably not with current tools, but it seems like something that would be doable with very a bit of SJ/JC-esque cleverness.

Not bloody likely.

That'd just be wasted effort anyway. The point of a UV map is that you have more control over which pixel ends where. Why would you use s3o if you're not using UVs?

You can do it almost that simply, but not in Upspring.

There are plugins for 3dsmax or something that make it very fast to do, I think. I've not done it myself.

For the final time:

DarkRain's milkshape plugin!

Thank you.

Well I want to use uvmapping because it doesn't have the 2kx2k limit and that's all. And if I want to use textures from s3o I want to retain roughly the same polygon for polygon strtching. It seems to me easier to have a model with a texture on each face converted to a uv map with the textures from the model in the right place as 3d renderrers with texturing support should already have the code to stretch imagines to fit irregular polygons. I'm astounded that nothing appears to include this option.

And where on Earth do I get this "DarkRain's" plugin?

The only thing I can find there is an ancient 3do importer which only supports .gaf textures.

In fact there's nothing here spring related.

What you can do is import it into milkshape, export from milkshape to 3dsmax, then use the 3dsmax s3o export tool to export to s3o. You'll just have to use the ota model to get this to work.

I haven't tried this myself, but I think this is what Flozi is getting at.

Yes, it does use gafs. You import into milkshape and it creates a UV mapped version of those textures and you can then save out to obj or 3ds and load it up in UpSpring.

It even makes a UVmap for you.

Ok so what do I use to convert .bmp and .jpg files to .gaf?

Other than gaf builder, is there a command line tool so I can just batch it and get them all in one sweep?

Also do gaf's support animation, of sp does spring also use animation?

GAFs support animation but Spring doesn't.

Ok so is there a tool the does bulk conversion?

Obviously, this plugin works, but the UVmap is not very good, it is 3do-looking.
On the other hand, it allows to use the s3o features, like self-illuminating.

as a side note: cloaking units that have s3o models are all messed up (texture corruption) so don't make any

Ok here's the killer question, is the a command line converted that can for example do this: img2gaf -i x.jpg -o x.gaf? Or does I have to click 200000 times just to convert a thousand files to gafs?
