Hello i need to know how i can turn off and turn down some of TAs settings in linux (config file). Also i was woundering why all the maps are white like snow and the smoke is blocky? Could it be my intel graphics card? Thanks

Some info about config values in ~/.springrc: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Config

Blocky smoke (if you mean the smoke is on a black square) is caused by incorrect datafiles: SVN HEAD is far ahead of the latest data tarball. Using the data in trunk/game/data (of your SVN checkout) and combining that with the necessary data in the tarball should solve that.

I've no clue about the white map problem.

I use DRI too on an X700 (with r300 driver), I dont have this problem, but some small other ones, a few texture loading issues on some maps/mods, general performanc is just sufficient ~10-25 fps (press B, I'm interested in your fps)

> cat ~/.springrc
TreeRadius=250
Fullscreen=1
ShowPlayerInfo=1
MaxSounds=16
ScrollWheelSpeed=50
GroundDecals=1
CatchAIExceptions=0
GroundDetail=20
ReflectiveWater=0
XResolution=1024
FSAALevel=2
InfoMessageTime=0
ShowClock=1
AdvUnitShading=1
SpringData=/home/pheldens/games/taspring
GrassDetail=1
TeamNanoSpray=1
SoundVolume=10
MaxParticles=40
LastListChoice0=default
LastListChoice1=Commanders
LastListChoice2=SmallDivide.smf
LastListChoice3=Absolute Annihilation 2.11
Shadows=0
FSAA=0
AdvSky=0
UnitIconDist=100
InvertMouse=0
UnitLodDist=100
VerboseLevel=0
DynamicSky=0
name=slpyhd
YResolution=768
ColorElev=1

I also recommend building svn, and using spring-gui (py-gtk launcher)
spring SVN mini howto:

I personally have most of the time >30 fps, with a geforce FX 5200 and minimum settings ..
edit: but a resolution of 1280x1024 (see the Requirements page for more details)

I believe the r300 open source driver isn't (yet?) good for games.

it's getting there, it's the fastest libre acceleration available atm.
And I doubt the newly liberated intel driver, for which no add in cards exist yet, will be faster. Thats why I'm interested in his performance. He may be using an older open driver, but I'm interested in that too.

Here's a recent benchmark I did for r300 on my x700 , and an applist.

In your home directory the file .springrc (note the leading dot, it makes it a hidden file).

I have looked over my home directory and it seems that the folder .springrc is not there. I did see many other hiden folder thought. Whats going on where is the folder?

It's a file, not a folder. It could be it doesn't exist if you never ran spring. Run it once, and it will be created.
