Terraforming

I'm not sure if this should go under Moding or what. I was just wondering if it's possible to build a trench digger unit. In the past a swarm of landmines could crudely cut a ditch in the ground. I was just wondering if there was a better way to do it?

It'd go really well with E&E since Earth 2150 had a big thing about trench digging and land deforming. Course it also had an underground, but that I'm not expecting to see in Spring.

Just shift-click-hold with the mines, and come back 5 mins later, Ctrl-D 'em and nothing gets through, for portable "trenchers" just build a lot of suicide units :P

Crawling bombs aren't that effective I've found, and mines... Well, they work, infact it's kinda funny to see a trench appear when an army gets too close.

What about a gunship that's designed to land and explode and only damages the terrain? That way it can be flown in and deployed? Gunships are the only aircraft I know of that can fly in line or box formation. Either could be very useful in digging trenches.

atm a unit can't be ordered to lower the ground or truly raise it on command. AFAIK the engine only allows terrian to be restored by builders nothing more.
while restoring does in effect raise the terrain u can't make hills or "walls" in spring except with explosive weapons.

I used to use D-gun, i made a hell of a trench array one day... I made these big ass ones that went into the water, the bots would try to come, the go to trenches, and get pwned by stuff waiting at sides of trenches, ahh, good ole days...

Explosives only, yeah that's pretty much what I've done already. It's just sorta dangerous setting mines to produce trench lines. Are there any mines that have a small blast radius and are cheap to make? Cause that'd be perfect for trench digging. Something a kind to an exploding dragon's teeth. A wall ready explosive. Heh... Take a new miner unit and give it an assortment of wall ready mines.

Though I suppose that's not entirely nessessary if the minelayer has a flock of helper air craft with him. :|

I find the minelayer vehicles in AA do the job (laying lots of mines) quite effectively - even better if you make a group of them take the 'central build ai' - you can make big minefields very quickly that way.

I'll have to expariment with that. Thanks

What yield do you use? .

A mod intending for that to happen would include a trencher mine.

An interesting observation was that a factory's open yard would cause holes in the ground when a large blast goes off nearby. The reason is probably that the ground below a building gets lowered when the building is hit by the blast, the blast keeps hitting the building much longer than it would hit the ground (in fact as long as the building survives) and unlike the ground below the solid parts it won't be autoleveled by the building.

A good way to see this is to build some drone factories and detonate a Titan in midst of them in CvC.

By the way, can negative terrain deformation factors be used to build walls instead of trenches?
