Xect vs Mynn

I am going to help make this mod, a mod of the people that we can play without living in fear of atari (not that atari is fearsome). A mod for linux and windows users alike. A mod made by gamers for gamers.

Once we have the general ideas for the commanders I'll move on to what the commander can build and we as a community will go through the build tree until we have things the way we want.

First
We will hash out the gameplay while talking about the units ie
"I think the commander should shoot deathrays out it's eyes so I wont have to worry about rushes" REJECTED
I think we should go for ta like and I want it to showcase as much of the engine as possible.
(I reserve the right to completely reject someones ideas if they are a newb trying to make gameplay fit their crap playing.)
Starting with the commanders

We have the Xect commander - robots
We have the Mynn commander - bio bug/creature/alien things


Shared Commander ideas:
1. Must have a D-gun because those are cool. Renamed to avoid intelectual property rights stuff to the Commander-Cannon or C-cannon (I'm very open to suggestions on that one)

2. The commander needs to be able to defend a base for at least the first 2 or 3 minutes. I'm thinking weaker standard attack than AA the (com lasers), with a larger reclaim area than in AA with much more health than in AA.

3. Smaller death explosion radius but just as cool and destructive.

4. Still has a very strong nanolathe (nanolathe = construction power)

5. NO MORE NANOLATHE I want this mod as far away from acual ta stuff as possible so developers get on that. At the very least different colors of nanolathe. For the time being though it will be green nanolathe.

6. Different C-Cannons for each com

Xect Commander ideas:
1. Cool robot sounds, see the sounds thread http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6253

2. Maybe get a new model and script to make it like a Dalek but still different enough.

3. Beamer style laser if we have a dalek style model. If not I'm thinking Xect com gets a minigun with green bullets

Mynn Commander ideas:
1. Cool bug/creature/alien sounds, see the sounds thread http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6253

2. Shoots deathrays out it's eyes and has a paralysing stomp move and shoots fireballs out it's buttocks. In reality I'm thinking throwing a shotgun style quill weapon that can hit an area. Maybe poison EDIT acid, would this be possible? damage over time? /EDIT ?




Things to think about also
1. Should the commanders and races to be fundamentally different. If so how? (Core and Arm are very close to eachother.)
2. CONTRIBUTING
3. Beautiful women (except for Felix)
4. What sort of animations or effects do you want the commanders to have or if you really have a vision of what they should look like make a model and texture and script is to be awesome or just make a model and we, as a community, can work on it.
5. Paralyzing stomp unit with abother weapon or ability

We can do this.

I hope you're just going to do it over completely. As in throw away everything except the general idea, and even that isn't awesome.

Yes mostly completely redoing it, but right and with good stuff.
Keep posting I don't want crap in this mod and you have a low tolerance.

In all honesty, why bother? xect VS mynn was a bad concept. Why not start your own mod?

Not trying to be discouraging, just curious as to why you are going to continue this particular mod.

Never seen a robot dying from poisoning. Acid on the other hand...

acid works really well, great idea. We'll keep that in mind for mynn units in general and for coms.

in general we do not have anything that does damage over time. You may want to make some sort of heat spray. Although you can use the custom explosion system with my plasma shot projectiles to make a neat acid weapon. It just wounldn't do damage over time because spring does not have that sort of weapon.

Indeed. Robots vs aliens always seemed silly, not to mention practically impossible to make it decent in Spring engine, since the robots could just build an enormous fly swatter and start stomping ass.

The one big huge reason is I can't make units very well modeling, scripting, texturing. However, if a ton of people post saying they volunteer to make units I will orchestrate it all into a beautiful mod with powerful gameplay and eyes that shoot deathrays. Otherwise it's patch up xvm to playable. The summer is long I may go back to the original mod idea if it gets boring.

Yeah, well, modelling, texturing, and scripting make up 90% of the work involved in making a mod...

Given that, you may as well make something entirely new, like smoth suggested.

I'd rather just see XvM fixed up into a playable state and then balanced so that it can be used as an extra pair of factions for XTA. That is, after all, what the Xect and Mynn were originally made for - they were made to be extra factions for OTA, not a stand-alone-mod. After all, an army of robots and an army of aliens makes sense as the only "outsiders" to add to TA. They were just ported (incompletely) to Spring because they were the only known mods to be made from scratch.

So you guys beleinve that all the models textures and scripts already written, there are more that are in the mod file but not playable, are worthless and should be hashed? I think that that could be my next project, but xvm doesn't need that much to be playable. I'll fix it up without further discussion and then start on a new mod. sound good?

I agree that axing the current content would make little sense, if you fix the balance and make a patch for it I will apply it to SVN.

In TA it shoot "deathrays" out it's arm so I wont have to worry about rushes. What's wrong with that?
