Translation of SinbadEV's Mumblings with explainations:

So basically some guy posted in here a while back trying to find a good program to do Dungeons & Dragons hosting online... I posted in reply that I was also looking for a good program like this because some friends and I were thinking about getting together on Teamspeak to play D&D (the pen and paper kind).

Well, The person who was going to be our Dungeon Master (Game Master) hasn't acctually bothered to set anything up so I'm now looking for a new DM/Group, possibly people from here, or friends thereof...

I was asking firstly if anyone was interested in DMing using the Open Gaming SRD 3.5 ( http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html or http://www.andargor.com/ ) for an online TeamSpeak RP session. (SRD3.5 is the free version of the varied expensive D&D manuals that I don't intend to buy).

Is that clear?

I would be the one who posted earlier, I've found that teamspeak is bad, it is much higher quality of gameplay with just typing because I have more time to think about what npcs say and what encounters happen. I can dm but I'm pretty terrible ie little bit lazy. I have good apps and I also use the srd 3.5. so sindbad and af if you want to join 2 of my friends and play with us that would be worth a try.

Well... I guess I'm not terribly attached to the teamspeak thing... I wouldn't mind doing this kind of thing with y'all... how do you arrange meetings?

I don't personally like the concept of the whole online D&D thing... I mean D&D is supposed to be the last ditch nerd attempt at IRL social interaction. Plus if you're going to be online anyways you might as well be playing games with real software attached to them.

Nice thing about DnD: You can change the game "engine" at any point, and content creation is almost instant, efortless, and has no restriction like "we don't have transparency yet" Plus content can be modified "on the fly", and the world responds to your characters actions to an unparralleled degree.

Bad thing about DnD: Action takes a long time, because you don't have a game engine with hardcoded rules to speed things along. You also may be stuck talking to annoying people, or an unimaginative DM, or a rules lawyer, ect. There is also the issue of varying levels of roleplay, both in skill and desire. You also have to actual get a group of people to commit to meeting regularly, which can be a hassle.

Pro's and Con's just like anything else.

I don't know about the "last ditch effort for IRL social interaction" thing... I have real friends I hang out with on a regular basis, but it's hard to meet up with more then 1 of them at a time because real life has jobs, and housework and resposabilitties... and now they are starting to get wifes and children which makes it even harder to hang out... it's just easier to get people together online.

Anyways, I see DMed RP as more of a creative environment, where as most video games are structured and become level grinds... you don't have the opportunity to "fail" at an attemt to climb a rope in most video games.

I play at http://www.online-roleplaying.com , text-based play by post.

Edit: Damn, that was embarassing... apparently the forums don't care much for language mechanics. Link fixed.
