What do you expect from your opponent?

In a game against an anonymous person would you feel cheated if you knew they werent playing to the best of their ability? That they were pulling punches?
Personally if I knew they werent going to be playing their best I wouldnt even want to play the game, and on the other side I feel like I am cheating my opponent by not doing all I can.
I was playing a 2v2 today where me and my ally rushed peewees/akbots at the same time onto one of the corners and crippled the player beyond any return, then we both quickly took as much land as possible, and as much land as possible means I was building mexes and LLTs at the closest points to the remaining player's base as possible. But upon seeing my commander near his base he and his ally immediately call 'lame' and quit. Their reasons both because "It wasnt a proper game" because "It was over in 20mins", as well as complaining about the commander.
Without using my commander to expand I would not have been expanding at my best, and therefore i would have felt I was cheating my opponent.
This isnt a post saying "DESE GUYZ SUX!! AM I IM RITE GUYZ? ", but just an example of what im getting at.
What are your opinions, are you looking for a game where everyone sits back and has a war with krogoths and berthas or do you expect your opponent to play their best at all levels?

well there are those who see losing units as a loss in itself, afraid to expand or even use a meatshield in front of their base defenses

Everything goes in war, it's all just one big legitimate strategy.
Something that disturbs me is people quit when you pull a tactic they didn't see coming. Often they will just shout "gg" and resign even though they would have had a fighting chance. This especially goes for those like unpossible said, see losing units as a loss in itself.

Yeah this really annoys me, double points if they call it lame.

People like what you described annoy me.
Whiny people who can't stand loosing to someone better so they quit.
What also annoys me, you get in a game and someone says "i have to go for tea soon" yeah thanks for telling me in the lobby, dick.

Even worse is people who pause the game because they have some trivial thing they need to do, like talk on the phone.
I never pause when I have to leave to computer for a moment, and I think it's both rude and disrespectful to other players to do so.
One shouldn't be playing a game if one doesn't have the next 2 hours completely free. People who join a game just to a few minutes later abruptly say that they have to go because this and that are douchebags.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hate people who ruin the game for others, intentionally or not because of something that 99% of the time could be avoided, like calling the person back or not joining a game unless they have time, period.

Pausing for a phone call or a getting a drink is fine IMO.
I love it when my enemy pauses for a few, so i can set all these commands

I've never got the 'pausing is EVIL' attitude. Obviously if you can help it you shouldn't but things like phones etc need to be answered, and it give your opponents time to set loads of orders.

No it's bullshit to pause because of one person in a 5v5 game. So nine people have to wait because you are a drunk or need to light a fag? no way.

What's worse is they'll stay bitter about loosing and wont learn from the game, and learning about your weaknesses and strengths is very important.

nothing wrong with a brief pause, as long as its not to go wash the car or something.... People do need to use the loo, chabnge their mouse batteries etc....

We usaly take a 5 minute break in huge games that gone on for over an hour... but last time we requested a break everyone left and said they won... they did'nt protest or anything, just said " Hey you requested a pause therefore we win by defult bye".
Wtf?
