Racial Emblems under Labs - cool or not?

What's you guys' opinions of the Arm or Core logos appearing under factories?

I thought it was kind of neat for the first building or two, but it lost its charm quickly thereafter.

Could you explain more?

Maybe it's an AA 2.0 -only feature.

However, when you build a Kbot Lab, Vehicle Plant - any sort of unit-making factory, a large decal of either the Core or Arm logo is placed onto the ground in stylish dark metal.

This is not a feature of the model, it is some effect caused by placing the factory there.

I'm unsure how it works, as it doesn't change the terrain in such a way you can see it using F1 (As you could if, say, an enemy built a Punisher on a slope, so you could see the rectangle indentation), but... *shrugs*

*sighs* it was magic...

not, all joking aside it is the new ground decals. Expect it to be coming soon to mods near you.

Basically, it's exactly the same thing as with the cratering decals on the ground, EXCEPT it's created by the building - it fades just like a normal crater decal when the building is removed.

Personally, I think it looks cool. It adds something hard-lined to the buildings.

I sorta like it, but the decals need some work, they look horrible on snow maps

IIRC the decal under the arm buildings dosnt have the arm logo on it. Its just some other pattern.

Was kinda cool at first but then was kinda off putting.

AFAIK it is possible to use partially transparent building decals, which should look a lot better...

looks good on signle buildings, strange with more buildings in one place..

maybe the edges should also be more "blurred" out

or maybe the decals shold not be larger then the unit ground plate. You guys really need to sen the complaints about HIS implementation to the corresponding author. The rest of us have no controll over his mod.

Do we have a transparency channel on them?

I think they're pretty....

As of yet there's no way to do transparency, no. I'd have rather rounded the edges or made them look more natural, but no such luck. Maybe in a future version.

I think a better way to have done it would be to not just decal from the middle of the structure but to paste an aligned texture on the ground if theres a building near it so we don't get the ugly overlappingness.

I thought those were rodes, to make your base look more millitary and orderly. I thought they were cool, and wished there were more 'foundations' on other buildings. Its damned odd to see grass sticking through the spinny platform in your factorys.

They may not be as good looking as they could be, but I still think they are really neat. I'd like to see more ground decals for the heavier buildings i.e. Fusions, storage, nukes, LRPCs, etc.

Some things actualy NEED them, like the arm EMP missile launcher.

we needs support for an alpha channel/tranparency!
These are a might more complicated than the explosion scars aren't they as the scars are just a transparency colour.

In the meantime, why not just remove the fancy edge texturing so overlap is a matt grey on grey? The whole idea started from a potential Dune mod in which concrete would be underneath all buildings.

The only reason we see overlap is because of the contrast between edges. Used right this is a neat little feature, just keep the textured bits under the buildings.

Or caydr could just fit the decal to the footprint.
