Commander not appearing.

Everytime I start up a new single player game, I get the map loaded and all that, but unfortunately couldn't do anything as there are no units placed. Not even the commander.

Gave me the message 'Waiting for connections. Press RETURN to start'

If I do, it automatically exits.

Urh, help please?

If you ment with 'single player game' that you run spring.exe: you've noticed you got several options. Pick 'cmds 1000 res'. That will automaticly spwan 2 comms (one is yours). Notice that the enemy comm won't do anything.
To use AI's look at the wiki: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Read_Me_First#Bots

If you just ran a game from the lobby with nobody else then you ingame. the game automaticly ends becouse there are no enemies, so you've won.

Yep, I got the AI bots beforehand. The OTA and the NTAI.

Then tried the command 'cmds 1000 res'. Didn't do anything except to present a map devoid of any units at all.

When I press enter, the game exits to the desktop as I 'won' whatever battle that is.

If that is of any help, when I tried to test the game using the 'test script' option, no units popped up. Is it got to do with my near empty "C:\TASpring\startscripts" folder? (It's sole occupant is the startscript.lua)

Oh yes, thanks for the headups on that page. Never came across it.

surely you can just use springsp.exe if you want to play single player?

Yarh!

Downloaded it, and discovered that the install files came with it anyway. Tried to use it before. Same problem as above, except the game automatically starts, despite no units standing around. I tried to put in two computer players of different AIs.

Still problems.

hmm are you using win98? ... IIRC those errors occur when using an outdated OS...

Ah, I am on Windows XP Professional...

Yeah, yay on me being some sort of a special case.

well being special has a down side. I'm runnign through ideas ;)
Removing the entire folder and do a new install (and ass SpringSP unpossible provided) fixes most problems.

And I should ask you, what kind of graphical card do you have? lack of a suffisiant GPU can couse lots of problems.

Argh.

Tried the reinstall, and no results.

Using a Geforce FX 6600GT 128.

Reinstall didn't fix it? Wow, this is a first.

Did you delete the TASpring root directory PRIOR to reinstalling? You should have.

Did you install XTA during installation? You must, even if you don't intend to play it, since virtually all other mods rely on some of its contents.

Yep, done both.

Hmm... could a missing file be a possibility?
