No not really, please seach the forums about this, and don't make this go off-topic.
OTA mapscale and Spring mapscale are nearly perfectly the same.
If you do want to discuss this again, pls make a thread for it.
No they aren't.
OTA 1:16
Spring 1:8
That why when you export a 16x16 texture out of an ota map the size of the texture is 4096 (which is == 8x8 in spring).
As Forboding Angel couldn't be arsed to make a new thread, and i don't want that my map thread goes offtopic, we can discuss it here.
Well Forboding you are right on one thing, the OTA heightmap resolution is less!
but the map sizes are nearly perfectly the same!!!
a 20x20 map in OTA = 20x20 in Spring!!!
Look @ this:
MetalHeck is 8x8 in OTA and 8x8 in Spring.
And between those to "pillars" fit nearly exactly the same ammount of units.
Conclusion:
The mapsizes in OTA and Spring or nearly the same!!!! ONLY the heightmapresolution of Spring is higher then in OTA!!!!

Oh my god, who gives a flying fuck?
Did you take into account the possible unit size changes?

I do care, so we all understand where we are talking about!
And the unit sizes weren't changed!

I never said they were.
Understand where we are talking about? What the heck are you talking about? I honestly don't care.
If the unit size was not changed at all... Seeings as if the texture is 4096 in ota, and a 16x16 in ota (texture size 4096) is the same as spring 16x16 (texture size 8192), then that would mean that the texture for OTA maps was stretched double which we all know is not the case.

You are talking crap!!!
GIVE ME PROOF!!!!!!!!

It seems to matter to you more, so why don't you give me proof? I could care less whereas you seem to be all broken up about it.

Ok here goes
I will take The Cold Place as example, as i ported that to spring:
OTA says its: 16x12
So i load it up in Annihilator and i'll export the TEXTURE MAP as a bmp.
It turns out to be: 7712x5760 pixels
Now if i want a 16x12 map in spring i need: 8192x6144 pixels
So the difference is only SMALL!!!!!!!!

So NOTHING is being doubled are something!!!!!!!

it doesn't matter if it's strechted or not, it's about the relative scale the map has to units.. and thats almost perfectly the same.
So if you do a remake of a 8x8 map, you should keep it 8x8.
i don't know why this is so hard to understand?

I agree. I told NOiZE that him making ring atoll 20x20 in spring was just about the right size (as it was 21x21 in ota). Then he decided to go on the warpath to prove a point that makes no difference at all in the scope of things.
I've been simply saying that if you load up a 16x16 in annihilator and export the texture and heightmap, the ratio of the heightmap is 1:16 which makes the texture 1:2. That may not be the exact same for ALL ota maps, as ota had some wierdness about it, but in all honesty, who cares?

grrr, you keep missing the point.
Greenhaven for example is a 16x16 in ota yes(it was a while back when I did this)? If you export the texture, the texture comes out as 4096x4096, therefore it is reasonable to believe that
In ota: 4096x4096 == 16x16
Whereas in spring as every mapper knows: 4096x4096 == 8x8
What about that is so hard for you to understand?
THerefore, a 20x20 in spring would be equal to a 40x40 in ota.
I DON'T NEED BIG FUCKING RED LETTERS TO BE TOLD SOMETHING!

So do I. For all I know we may both be right. Ota can eb kinda tricksy at times, and from what I've noticed, especially when it comes to maps, however, I don't really think it's worth us arguing about honestly.

Ok, the conundrum is that noize is saying the size is the same relative to the units...
Forb is saying the texture is 2X
you are both correct.

IF
In ota: 4096x4096 == 16x16
AND
In Spring: 4096x4096 == 8x8
AND
An 8x8 map in OTA and in Spring both hold the same number of units.
THEN
An 8x8 in spring is stil 8x8 in ota, as far as unit and map scale is concearned... it's just that spring maps have twice the resolution of ota maps.

So if a spring map says 20x20 what exactky does that mean in terms of ota?
I understand that a ota map converted t ospring is almost exactly the same size in relation to the units but would it show up as half the size of the ota version?
