I've been buying new components for my killer PC system for
a few weeks now. Here is a list of the components:

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe MB
2 BFG 7600 w/256 MB PCI-E cards
4 SATA 160 GB HDs
1 Mid-Tower Case( Black and Silver)
1 floppy ( still use them  )
1 DVD drive
1 DVD+-RW drive
600w PSU SLI ready
AMD64 X2 4200+
Windows XP 64bit version
4 Micron 512MB DDR 400

Now it's time to put all together ....
I ran into a major road block ...

My memory ... What I got isn't on the approved list for Asus ...

Now I have to return other memory and get some new modules
today .. If things go right .. I'll have my new system up and
running today .

i ran into that problem when i got my foxconn mobo...the memory i got was asking for 1.8V...but the mobo couldn't hack it and wouldn't boot. a new mobo was the better option for me :)

When you say not on the aproved list do you mean it actually doesn't work or Asus hasn't heard of it?

I never cared if my RAM is on any list as long i can plug it in and it has correct speed.

Qualified Vendors List (QVL)
MICRON SS MT8VDDT3264AG-40BCB

The Micron part I have is :

Micron SS MT8VDDT6464AG-40BDB

I went to the Micron web site and the only differance is the
one I have uses 64MB chips compared to 32MB chips to make
the modules.

I'll just have to get one from the approved list... An play it safe.

...they never listen. Nobody can wait for DX10 cards and save themselves $700 on their paperweight.....

Caydr remember dx10 cards are vista only as dx10 is vista only, plus it will only run dx9 games properly with vista as to be dx10 compliant they have to have unified shaders which dx9 has no understanding of. :-)

When MS Vista is released I plan on getting it. I'll rebuild
another system with ATI graphic cards. Right now MS-Vista
is not being released until late March or mid April. So, it's
almost a year from now. When MS Vista is released to the
public ATI and Nvidia will be releasing DX10 second generation
GPU cards.

Indeed
I'm just getting 2 dirt cheap crossfirre cards. That way, I've still got a pc able to run stuff, but is so cheap I don't have to worry about much.

2 X x1600pro 512 = 1.25 X 7900GTX 512. for 200 quid less! :O
