Let's talk about DeltaSeige!

I love DeltaSeige. And Duo. And Rev. It's like, among the few maps where water is useful.

I think that Ice should make another Delta Seige-style map, except a bit "fatter", so the "land" portion is wider, and there are two paths to take to get to the enemy base.

And don't say "Then just play Duo!", because the problem I think there is with DeltaSeige is that, if you lose the water battle, then your team LOSES... HARD. A single Cruise Missile ship can take the middle hill out, and can take out a number of metal patches and places for fortifications with EXTREME ease. And on Duo, that's just doubly so, if you take an ocean, then your team can pour through on one side, unimpeded after your preparatory barrage.

I propose that, with more land, there is still a chance to win, or at least not be TOTALLY screwed if you lose the water war.

I'm saying this as an avid naval player. :P It's just too easy for me to win on DeltaSeige in team games, because I overwhelm the guy they put on naval duty, if there is one at all, and then just deny them the land with a few cheap missile ships.

(Just FYI, I play AA.)

IMO it's mainly because of the MOD design rather then the MAP design

I'd blame that more on the powerful water balance in AA, but I <3 delta, so more maps like it is fine with me.

I'd also have to say that it is a mod issue, rather then a map issue.

And I think it sets a bad precedent if we make maps specifically for mods, unless of course it is a mod which needs a dedicated map (FF, etc), or a mod which wants a themed map (AATA/SWS) - and even those should be playable with other mods.

Caydr's admitted that AA's water balance is borked.

there should be a working torpedo bomber with decent damage

NOiZE is on to something, much of that is the imbalance between sea and land inherent in the AA engine. Caydr is working on it, but for now, if you want balanced sea forces, play either XTA or possibly E&E.

Now, Smoth mentioned that the map crashes for him. Having had this issue and downloaded the map pack five or six times, I know what he means. First, don't keep the old pack in the maps folder. It ghosts settings and somehow generates maps with tile reversals in game that invariably desync. Make sure you have V10, and everything should flow.

True story, in a Rev map I lost control of the water, but somehow we still won. I was very proud of my team at that time.

Come to think of it, yeah, I also recently won a game where I was (somehow?!?!) pushed out of the water.

Granted, they really were crap at pushing their advantage...

Some people really hate L2 ships. Some people really hate hovercraft.

We aren't here to judge them, we are here to slay them.

atm sea balanced is borked because torpedo bombers cannot target/attack submarines at all.. this creates a serious problem as in order to hunt down submarines you need to have control of some water..
