Just some silly idea really...

But in that old settlers 2 you had a nice feature where you could plug in a com port second mouse and let player 2 use it. Then you could play split screen multiplayer on the same comp. It was quite fun. I wondered if it would be possible to implement this in spring. I know that the guys over at
http://legacy.newdoom.com/ has the code for second mouse support and croteam even got it from them for serious sam: the second encounter. So what you say?

I can see the fun now, not haveing a multiplayer game obviosly, but in having someone being able to drive (FSP) your teams units whiles you build... And hay, this fits nicly with the PnP thing (which youd need to have two views... )

Would be quite awesome if Spring had something like that.

Hands up anyone who would try commanding both screens at once...

lol.... just like eq... 2 commanders one player...
While I can see the advantages of having 2 different commanders it would be hard to manage. Oh well, neat idea I don't really want to see it though.

Is this idea limited to the COM port or is there a way around to make it possible with two USB/PS2 mice perhaps, maybe one could "trick" the system into thinking one is a gamepad/joystick device? as long as you can have two cursors..

nah I dotn see why spring couldnt detect the second mouse and hijack the device for its own purposes, processing the data itself for that port in particular, though I wouldnt fancy programming in device drivers into an engine

Cool idea. Games where you can play with two players on the same computer are getting exceedingly rare.
This feature would mean that those with small home networks of two computers could still have games with four people.
Oh well

. Another feature that the SYs have to include if they want to save their souls. My guess is that they won't be able to leave this world until they implement every possible feature and make Spring a perfect game. If they cannot acheive that goal, in time they will become immortal undead servants of the Spring Engine.
One Spring to rule them all
One Spring to find them and in the darkness bind them ...

Actually, multi monitor support would be really, really nice. I have 2 monitors and I can never go abck. It's so helpful to be able to look at 2 things at once.
Like I said before, Flight Sim 2004 shows how to do multiple monitors and multiple windows very well.

I think you got the ring poem wrong there gabba though I'm a Tolkien fanatic so I'm sensitive to those things

Yhe... We all dream of multi monitor support and being able to use two mice... Which brings up another question, can i use my joystick for driveing vehicals? Because add that to PnP, and youd be able to have friends driving your stuff in a PnP window (or on another monitor!) whiles you build no second mouse needed! And Joysticks are so mush fun!

Yeah, Gabba, you missed a line. Should be like this:
One Spring to rule them all, One Spring to find them,
One Spring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
Hehe... Firestar, how would "Spring" sound in Mordor speech?
Ash Spring durbatulûk, ash Spring gimbatul,
ash Spring thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

You mean the black speech of Gorgauth? General of the forces of Melkor, Attanatar (lord of gifts) to the high elves, later known as Sauron by the Numenoreans? I'll have to looks into that.
In Quenya it would be:
tuile
a 54 day period defined in the calendar of Imladris as spring around the time fo april. There are further words signifying the first day of spring and the beginnign of spring and the end of spring
If you meant a spring of water then:
ehtele
And if you meant to spring forward:
coire
Note quenya is not exactly elvish Elvish languages are many and Quenya was spoken by the High Elves of Valinor/Aman where the valar resided after their residence in Middle Earth was destroyed along with the 2 great lighthouses of Middle Earth that lit the world by melkor (morgoth as he was known then). Other elvish languages could be Avalonean or Sindarin, and a few others I am not aware of

Blackspeech:
Ash nazg durba-tul-ûk
(One ring to-rule them all)
Ash nazg gimba-tul
(One ring to-find them)
Ash nazg thraka-tul-ûk
(One ring to-bring them all)
Agh burz-um-ish-i krimpa-tul
(And dark-ness in-the to-bind them)
It seems there are only 34 words for the black speech that I can find and spring or any season isnt one of them

Thanks! Tolkien deserves being quoted correctly.
Does anyone know how many SYs there are? 9 of them, by any chance?

Well, I don't think you can play with a mouse only, without a keyboard. And split screen in a RTS would ruin the whole fog of war system.
