How much bandwith is required for hosting orplaying in say, a 2v2 game of AA on a medium sized map?
I ask cause my internet speed has been capped for a week or so by my ISP down to 64kbs (Download) and I dont want to miss out on spring till its back

Hmm spring needs about 1kBps * player^-1. So 64k should be enough for an 2v2 on any map.

Remember: 1kB is not same as 1kb
I think Ishach means bits.
So 64kbps = 8kBps
Wtf you ment with that formula: player^-1 ??? seems like what more players, that less bandwith needed? makes no sense...

haha :] kBps*player^-1 = kBps / player
edit: I know but 3 clients * 1kBps = 24 kbps ..
24kbps<64kbps

I have about a 4500/300 connection and can host 3vs3 with no problem.

I got 6750/950 kbps or 840/120 kBps
I'm capable of hosting big 8 and 10 player games....

ive got 9400kbps/768kbps and have never had any lag whatsoever hosting. spring does an awsome job at bandwidth usage

ppl using a modem (56kbps) can play fine 1v1 games.
On 2v2 games, it may get slow if you have too many units, so use a lower unit limit like 250 and it will be good.

I have a 56k modem, and I have no difficulties playing up to 2v2, but I stay away from the larger maps, and longer games in general.

you have 10 megabit download and 768kbps upload. Not sure if you realize htis, but that is A LOT of bandwidth.

I have a dial-up, and I've participated in a number of games up to 10-player games where other people drop well before I do (if I even do). So I guess what I'm saying is that "Your actual bandwidth performance varies."
I think that the connection and bandwidth performance of the host is much more crucial to how well a game comes off than anything else.

Here in australia 24,000/1000kbs plans are pretty common an inexpensive, Dont they have ADSL/2 in other places?
(Its what my connection usually is at, but its been speed capped to 64kbs)

Nixa is arguing with me that a spring game uses like 50mb of bandwith in a game.
I dont think he is right
is he right

They offer those deals all over the place. However, those are just the advertised bandwidth limits that you are only to get if you live 2 feet away from your local exchange. For example, I currently have a package that has a max bandwidth limit of 8mb/448kb, but due to the fact that I'm relatively far from my exchange point and I have high line attenuation I can only get about 3.5-4mb/350kb.

Note that I can host a 2vs2 BA game on a medium sized map on 45.2k dial up with little to no lag. That should give you an idea of how much bandwidth spring requires.
Oh, and I can play 10 people games easily. And usually its not me lagging the game out.
