I heard the engine is now being developed in private and plans to rename entirely in future. Scripts needed to migrate to the new Spring engine like 3do2s3o.lua are kept private, blocking other mods from updating while development takes place behind closed doors.

Release the 3do2s3o.lua script needed to migrate to the new engine.

fyi the engine you mention is a fork of the official spring engine, that you can find here:

I don't think this forum is a place to discuss an unofficial fork, but here is some info that might help:

3do2s3o is not lua, its a python script developed by Beherith. The author choses what to do and not do with it.

If you want to convert your BA 3do files to s3o you can use this 13 year old tool: https://github.com/spring/upspring, should take about 20 min wqith help of some macro software. Save yours and everyone else's time with this simple trick!

Renaming of bar engine is long overdue, it has taken its own path and considering spring official is being developed in parallel, it will lead to confusion in the future. Past attempts to merge with upstream have failed, so the ship has likely sailed.

Nothing wrt BAR engine is being kept "behind closed doors", if you wish, you can follow the development in this public repository:

The private branch Iceuicks mentionned before he deleted his messages.

Although nothing can undo the harm that was done to our community. The following steps need to happen to treat us fairly like everyone else.

1. All BAR devs need to resign their admin from Spring forum. So they can no longer use it to unfairly ban users and developers from their own games. Including beherith, gajop, bluestone.

2. All BAR devs need to resign their admin from Spring official server. So they no longer have the power to use botflags to harm other mods. Including beherith, bluestone and floris.

3. All BAR devs need to resign their admin from Spring discord. As they no longer use the official Spring engine. It should be transferred to the remaining users of the official engine. Including Gajop and forboding angel.

4. The 3do2s3o.lua tool to convert models to the new engine format needs to be released publicly as Beherith agreed. Community engine tools should not be used to privately gatekeep mods and play favourites based on Beheriths personal grudges.

5. Unban the BA developer from BAR

I just downloaded the latest BAR105 engine release here

(it's from today)

...and started a battle of metal factions 1.96 (uses all 3do). It works normally except for some lua errors due to some changes on key handling. It not only still works they've even been fixing some of the issues as people report (a lot from ZK but even some from me and I haven't even switched to the engine yet!).

"they" are as much our community as much as you or I. If a group of people were raging at you on public forums and even blaming you for shit you didn't do, then demanding you help them, would you?

It's not that simple. One may want to reuse the same texture atlas for all units of each faction. There's considerations on how to do it a way that's easy to maintain in the future.
