Universal Usage

We should all be playing the same version of the game once it's out because Spring will only be multiplayer. I personally recommend the use of Absolute Annihilation. Same versions means there will be no shortage of opponents. If we all split up using our different mods the community will crumble.

Haven't they said they would be including their own modification (forget what it was called... shouldn't be hard to find

) with the release of Spring? So it would obviously be the most official mod for use on Spring. But the other large projects will probably also be common. I know I'll be using Absolute Annihilation on it.

AA is not a Yankspanker production, they SY's have XTA and all the other TA stuff they've done, SJ has already said that spring will be released with a modified version of XTA and I trust him to balance the new TA for the new engine especially since they created it and they know whats best

Yes, I agree, We should use XTA. Maybe after a while we can Work on Our own Version like XTA plus or whatever, which will include new units and such, but in the begining XTA is the way.

I think i prefer the XTA.
About the «Universal usage», there must be care to the options.
TA has many options (comm dies-games ends / map explored-or not / 50~5000 max units / some units not allowed / unit packs). That ends up in lack of standardization.
My sugestion, sets of rules!
For example, the standard set would be:
- The XTA units (none disallowed)
- Máx 5000 units
- Map explored
- ...
Other example, the Tactical Operations set:
- XTA units
- Máx 50 units
- ...
(i've played a few times with limit at 50. It's great fun)
Other example, the Ground Wars set:
- XTA units (with planes, nukes and BB disallowed)
- ...
We could choose from those diferent sets of rules but if we choose anything diferent, it would be marked as a non standard set of rules.
That way, it would end up that:
- Hey, why are the Gimps disallowed?
- I don't like them.
- Ho? Now what do i do with a Lvl-2 Kbot lab in GOW???
- Hey!!! I didn't knew it was Comm dies->Game continues... Now my base is gone.
People would end up «hey, i feel like playing Tactical Operations» or «Why don't we play Ground Wars?».

I've played most of the major mods in the TA community, and I have to say the best one by far is Absolute Annihilation.
Beyond having a developer who seems to be fanatically devoted to the project (it's receiving its...second or third update -this year- in about two weeks, if he can keep the schedule), it boasts a pair of very well balanced sides that, while being different, have a huge array of tactical options open to them.
If you want games that, more often than not, degenerate into a "who can build the biggest bot" slugfest, choose a different mod.
If you want games that revolve around strategy and careful use of tactical units, choose AA.
Just my two cents...

Yes, but spring should be released with just the standared units. Not with a host of new ones added in. Sure AA is a cool mod, but TA spring should be TA spring. Besides the AA modles are not being remade for spring so it would look lame when compared to the new TA units.
Maybe at a latter date AA will make a Spring AA... then you can chose!

"Suck" who was the old administrator Marco from Annihilated.com has an amazingly good mod called TA: Master Edition. It incorporates the best of every mod we've ever seen, from the mutators to teleportation to bug fixes to totally new (any very useful!) Marco-only units like the magnetic stealth center (the most amazingl useful unit ever). It even has its own installer. I'll try to release a copy for Spring. I'll also enjoy seeing Absolute Annihilation--I have not tried custom mods since the days of UH 3.0
Anyway, I wanted to say that I think the days of multiplayer-only Spring are over. Before the forums got haxxored, there was a long AI thread by Bocaciua who got into the project to work on AI specifically. Has something changed?

Spring should NOT be limited to just one mod!! I am not joking. If anything someone should make a stable mod swapper for ta that allows anyone to use any mod for any game with out pulling there hair out trying to make the mod work. It have had that experiance. A standard should be made that everyone follows.
So I move for freedom of choice! Let those playing chose.
I say this partly because i "personally" don't like mod s that change orignal units. More units is good, but altering orignal units is BAD CARMA!!

Why must it be TA spring, nostalgia? And would the people remaking the units be that pissed off if they were used for AA? Also see video6.

Crickey man, don't have a hernia, we were just suggesting this mod for spring to improve gameplay over OTA.

I brought up the idea of a mod swaping interface lodder style thing in the old forum. No one seemed bothered but im all for it. And [K.B.] Napalm Cobra you got me rong. What I ment was that AA has a lot of brand new units that wont be remoddled in the XTA mod. So playing with it would sux compared to XTA, as half the units would be done, and half not done. Sure the balance is different and its one of the best mods, so would it not be cool to have two games... TA Spring and AA Spring? And I expect We'll end up with SWTA Spring and all the others too... But I'm sure the respective partys will do the moddifications needed to make it look great in spring. Spring should be released with XTA, and thats that.

Actually it wasnt that one thread it was multiple threads, first oen then that guest who came then the 3rd thread after some people sorta got annoyed by me and my adaptive AI ramblings then another after that.
I'll have to rewrite a thread on that summarising what i can remember for those who're new to see

the idea IS freedom, just like in OTA. I'm working on incorporating some sort of unit sharing/map sharing in side the lobby. What Spring will do is a unit sync, then disable the stuff the clients do not share.

hhmmmm How do you intend on stopping a single person such as myself expoiting it to slowly change all the unit files over to those of a balanced mod other than XTA? I coudl make peewees immensley pwoerful by changing them in my own sprign setup and fighting as many epopel as I can makign sure that my new peeweee covers up the old peeweee and as long as I did it gradually enough I could change the peewee in Spring forever!
