Dune - Wind Trap

Started playing TA Spring couple of months ago, greatly impressed so I decided to have ago and create a small mod project based on a mixture of Frank Herbert's Dune series of books and the first two original Dune games.

Had ago at getting a few test units ingame with little success, so I decided to start on some of the main content - picture below is my version of an Atreides Wind Trap based from Dune2; The model is using 512 res textures and a polygon count of just over 400, total of three objects which allows the traps to rotate accordingly to the wind direction.

Regards!

Wow, that's really cool! Really nice work, and I'm automatically enthusiastic about Dune games. :)

YES ! Dune!

The dumbest mind-fuck EVER !

Can´t wait for this mod !

All dune games were generic shitty RTS play with low re-play value, but thanks to spring this will be awesome.

Also, if all models look that nice with high-plolies and neat detailed textures, the eye-candy will be worth the time spent on it no matter how it plays.

Mixed feelings on the games, but I think we can all agree that the books those games were made from are totally win. So pull a lot of material from the books and you'll be ok.

A dune mod really calls for a Gaia player so you can things like neutral fremen (SP? It's been a while) and sand worm.

Wouldn't it be sweet to have sand worms that could only path too a certain altitude, so you could get them attacking your troops if they moved through the desert, but they'd be safe up on rock formations? (Or maybe bind them to a sand terrain type... can that be done?)

Anyway, more to the point, very well done on the unit. Awesome, in fact.

Thanks for the replies :) I would certainly like to see Sand Worms ingame if it can be done of course - but their are other effects/features which could also be introduced such as Sand Storms.

Other concerns are Spice, Harvester's and how ingame they could potentially work - I would also like to see water playing a role.

Looking towards real unit scale if it can be done within reason.

We will have to wait and see, theirs allot of content to be done, and then theirs the process of getting it functioning ingame - and like everyone very little time.

Cheers!

dune 2 was a huge revolution on RTS games. who does not respect it, shall get ninja's on his head very soon.

As for the windtraps: gorgeous. Simply wonderfull.

Multiple.

Maybe use The Spice instead of metal. That's whet everything is about. (harvesters? oh no...)

Yup. The movie wasn't so good, IMO. The miniseries from the sci-fi channel was quite good on the other hand. The actors had different accents depending on their planet of origin, which I thought was quite a nice touch.

On topic, the metal map would correspond quite easily over into spice...

But since you already have a power plant, how were you planning on running the resources? Energy/Spice? Water/Spice? Energy/Water/Metal/Spice?

Is the resource system in Spring easily modable? I don't know anything about that.

What are you talking about? Dune 2 launched the gender, it is the father of all RTSs.

Maybe you are too young to have played Dune 2 in it's time but i know i did in my 386 at 25 MHz with 4MBs of RAM and it was godly by the standards of the time (independently of the folowing ones beeing good or not).

Tremendous job Frank Herbert has done. Not as famous as Tolkien but i think that his work is even better (i swear, if i read one more reference in Tolkien's books of something beeing golden and silver, i think i will vomit).

What The Fuck????????
It is one of the best movies ever made :!: (the crapy special efects must be accepted with the consideration of how old the movie is)
