.: BattleRoom / Lobby idea's :.

I've been discussing this with some friends of mine, for some time now. I don't know if there already is a thread about this, but here's my 2$.

The ranking system

- other way than just played hours
- ranking based on wins:

- Standard score 4
- Wins against higher ranked player +1 per rank (max +3)
- Wins against lower ranked player -1 per rank (max -3)
- in team match -1 point
- more losses than opponent -1 point

- decrease of rank when multiple pre-leaves of games (if time out or sync problem no decrease)
- more different ranks (25 for example)
- some kind of voting system at the end of the match, to allow other players to vote per player if they played: poor, average, well, great, lame, n00b, irritating, etc.)

Match Making System

- You should be able to see what (open) battles are:
- Green for easy (1-3 score)
- Orange for medium (3-5 score)
- Red for hard (5-8 score)

- able to search for battles in these categories:
- Skill (like above mentioned colors)
- Map
- Teams or Free for All
- # of players
- Mod

- Option to search for players with same rank that are waiting in an open battle
- Able to host a map, that doesn't allow people that have been rated, lame, n00b or irritating, etc. (for example)
- Able to host a map in which there are no specs allowed

Some idea's of which most i think eventually need to be in the lobby client.

What do you'all think?

I don't care much about your new proposed rank system, but I think it would be great if you could search the lobby for battles by the Criterion above, or at least be able to sort the games in the current lobby by the different sets of information (game name, host, mod, # of players) that are already displayed in the game list. Disabling spectators would be a nice option, as well as equally ranked players waiting in an open battle.

There are a number of mathematically sound rating systems, among them ELO. It only works for two-player games (1v1s), but...

The problem with competitive ranking is that it naturally makes people more, well, competitive.

And that is a bad thing at such an early stage in development when there are exploitable bugs... :|

Yes, ranking would just make people use this : http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4620 more.

I've got an idea too :)
You can assign a rank at all the people in the lobby. Or the battle room ask you after the battle is finnished, if you don't have already ranked someone.
Of course, you don't have to if you don't want to.

And the rank of a player is determined by a formula like " the average of the note of players * their rank" (begginer have rank 0, so they don't count)

Of course, betalord would have to give some rank at the beggining to launch the machine, but I don't think it's a problem.

But I'm not sure of the maturity of the community, some people will rank people bad because they don't like them :(

A ranking system like this is better then any previous ranking systems showed up.
There has to be streight lines for what may, and what may not.
And handling desyncs and crashes is a problem as well.

The most bugs people can abuse are going to be fixed in the next Spring version though. But we still counter with mod inbalances. (though most in AA will be dixed in 1.45, if it ever coing to be released. And XTA PE5.5 is quite balanced.)

As far as I know the time ranked system was intentional to prevent an overly compeditive atmosphere amongst non-competive players. I'll always maintain that I don't want to see any w/l ranking anywhere but ladder play anyways.

I totaly agree to this, SwiftSpear!

If any ranking is done, I think it should be on a subscription like basis, so that you can choose whether you want play in the Foo Ladder or the Bar Ladder or in no ladder at all.

When such a ladder has moderator(s) too, it would just be an easier way to organize (continuous) tournaments.

I heard Rumors ppl are busy setting up a 1v1 Ladder for both XTA and AA

I'm against automatic ranking, but some automatic tournament ala warcraft 3 would be very cool !
But I don't know if it's possible, game length generally longer than in war3.

One thing I like about the community, right now, is that I can often get advice from a better player when I lose. I don't think that this would happen as often if thim was "ranked."

were working on our own private ladder.... but its private for a reason. At the current stage of spring, its too hard to regulate who actually wins games in general. it gets way harder when the game is bigger than 1v1 because the teams are usually not even fair. there are just way too many possibilities for abuse with a public ladder to have a system implemented into the client right now.

atleast with a private ladder you can only have people you trust and can remove people that try to abuse the system

public ladders in general are just horrible to make work if you ask me.... anyone remember the starcraft ladder system? Blizzard improved on it quite a bit for warcraft 3 but even that one is still pretty horrible

I'd agree, but that doesn't mean there can't be lobby support for official ladders. I don't know how plausable setting up games would be but I'm sure betalord could work something out where he streamed data from the ladder's site to give players at a certain level icons or other fun perks.

Well...I have some plans on running a clan based tournament sometime in the near future. No worries, I've learned from my last one, so this will be far better run <_<

I like the idea of being able to choose whether or not to play in a ladder, rather than ranking everyone automatically.

also if you have the ladder as a private system thats seperate from the client, but publicly viewable then...

players that WANT to be matched up with good opponents can check it and follow it that way. but for everyone else (especially all the new players) that just want to play games non competitively and just play to play like it is now, can just depend on our current rank system. a ladder system is good but do we really want the entire community to become a giant competitive league?

What do you'all think?
HELL NO

Spring needs to be about having fun, not E-Penis size. With a system like this new players would never get the chance to play along side good players.

Just, no.

i want a ladder. thats not to say that my e-penis is bigger than yours, just so that i can play against players and know how good they are, it would especially make 2v2 good fun.

But how you "pair" similar "level" ppl?

Having fun depends on who you play against aswell.

a way of not ranking ppl but still get this results.. how?
