K. As some of you know, i'm making a mod, And i need to know some stuff about Modelling And Making s3o out the textured models.
1. When making units, How do i mak them "Hover" a bit off the ground, Like Arghs Sheep in Nanoblobs.
2. Do I make The Barrel, Turret and Tank itself seperate in the same file or in differant files.
3. How do I make a "See-Through" Texture. Think of stained glass, Ie, An Invisible texture with "islands" in.
4. UpSpring seems to enjoy Rotating my models when I import them. Is the direction they are rotated to regarded as "Up" ingame?
5. How do I UV map. I've sorta got the hang of it, But I end up with Black lines from the vertexes :/
6. Can I use the same Turret Barrel Model in lots of differant Models?

umm yeah, you cannot just make an s3o out of a textured model you must first uvw map it... please do some
reading before you post.

I don't know... hmm maybe you could look at some of the 100s of
ALREADY CREATED HOVER units..
Drone_Fragger wrote:2. Do I make The Barrel, Turret and Tank itself seperate in the same file or in differant files.
Take a look at the models how were they constructed.. odds are you will see it if you look.
Drone_Fragger wrote:3. How do I make a "See-Through" Texture. Think of stained glass, Ie, An Invisible texture with "islands" in.
you can't.. and the term is transparent with opaque sections... however you would really want TRANSLUCENCY!
Drone_Fragger wrote:4. UpSpring seems to enjoy Rotating my models when I import them. Is the direction they are rotated to regarded as "Up" ingame?
Are the other models pointed this way in upspring?
Drone_Fragger wrote:5. How do I UV map. I've sorta got the hang of it, But I end up with Black lines from the vertexes :/
ha ha, read some tutorials... google it or... read the art and modeling forum.
Drone_Fragger wrote:6. Can I use the same Turret Barrel Model in lots of differant Models?
yeah if you want to.

At least do some learning on your own. To be honest if you cannot at least learn some of this on your own you will be dead in the water. Questions like "is this or that possible" I can understand but these are ones that you really can find quickly PLEASE use more critical thinking in the future.

I have. I was under the Impression that A uvw WAS the texture.
1. Most of them Just sit on the floor. With a tag saying "CanHover=1" Defining they are just Tanks with speical Limitations. So shut up.
5. I have. Most show you how to take an already done textures and put it on a predefined objects.

If you want the model to appear to hover above the ground, physically move the model up in the modeling program. Its as easy as that.

Ah okay. Thanks.
Okay, I followed Your advice And got lots of entries in google about "UV Mapping in 3Dsmax", which isn't much use because I use wings. A couple of ones that say "Dl this, this this and This then put it all together like so" And a bunch of step by step guides to making things were it inspecifically states "UVmap and Apply Texture".
Perhaps the reason I asked here was so taht someone could give me some links to tuturials.
I'm not an idiot who doesn't Google it first.

OMFG... you would google UVWMAP IN WINGS3D.... I am sorry you cannot opperate a search engine.
here I will give you a bone....
A uvw map is to an model as a peeling is to an orange..
if you unpeel and flatten an orange onto a square you have a uvwmap... but the texture and color of the orange would be represented by a texture.
also having a unit simply hover above the ground... does not mean hover.
Perhaps the reason I asked here was so taht someone could give me some links to tuturials.
I'm not an idiot who doesn't Google it first.
if you RTFM of wings you would not have to ask this...
5. I have. Most show you how to take an already done textures and put it on a predefined objects.
that is the process of MAPPING A TEXTURE. Don't get pissed with me because you do not read correctly. YOU WANT TO RTFM FOR WINGS.... no go and learn.

I'm not an idiot. I was asking if theres a way to make hovering units "hover" above the ground rather Than look like a tank without Terrain limitations.

don't make the mistake of believing that the hover vehicles have no terrain limitations. There are limitations.
The only thing that is striking me as idiotic is that you cannot RTFM.
stop calling yourself and idiot or I WILL begin to refer to you as such.
Right now by my presumptions about you are:
A: Take people for granted.
B: A kid
C: lazy
D: have no idea what it takes to do a mod
F: arrogant
If you want to ADD E: idiot be my guest. My opinions of A-F could be subject to change so lets not add idiot to your current repertoire.

Shut up.
I'm making the mod Right now. Modelled about Half of one side, Balencing the Aforementioned Side for about 4 or 5 days now.
And, I haven't called Myself and idiot.

really? I didn't know you were making a mod.
No reason to curse, I am simply stating some points while I am sure you may be offended I see no reason to doll things up.
It is because of some of those points that I listed that people are reluctant to help you. Cursing is not exactly going to draw people to your "side" of the discussion.
I looked at your earlier release and frankly didn't see ANYTHING worth critiquing.
I may be:
A: Blunt
B: Condescending
C: Arrogant
but I am always:
Helpful and willing to work with people. IT MAY BE that you should take some of what I told you into consideration. I have no idea of how talented you are but to be frank a lot of your questions are ones that have been answered SO many times it is an aggravation to answer them again and again. As I said earlier...
At least do some learning on your own. To be honest if you cannot at least learn some of this on your own you will be dead in the water. Questions like "is this or that possible" I can understand but these are ones that you really can find quickly PLEASE use more critical thinking in the future.
I get so tired of seeing hack programmers that want to put the thing-a-ma-bob in the widget and hope it works.
Oh, and before your post gets snip here and there taken out remove the curse words and just use crafty english in replacement.

Well then Just link those Posts to here. That way you explain everythign in one link rather than typing 4 or 5 lines about stuff.

1,2,3,4,5 and 6 have all been answered. where is there still a question?
